Ruger EC9S

I have the EC9s, so does my wife and one of my daughters. The trigger is better on it than the G43, I like that it has a manual safety too. I removed the magazine disconnect safety, added a hogue hand-all grip sleeve and a clip draw for ccw. It's my only ccw piece and has been utterly reliable and surprisingly accurate. I would recommend to anyone.

I bought an LC9 -s back in 2012. Though the trigger pull is long, it's smooth. I do feel comfortable shooting it even with +P loads.

Last year I bought the EC9 when a LGS had them on sale for like $220. It has a nice short trigger pull to it. Definitely a difference between the two. I haven't shot it enough to place it into the carrying lineup. I do know that the Promag magazine that works reliably in the LC9 doesn't play well with the EC9. The magazine follower won't feed the last round and hangs the slide everytime. I'm surprised that the fixed sights work well for me.

I picked up my LC9s for about $250 during some kind of sale a few years ago and I love it. I put some grip tape on it because the grip is a tad small for me. I eventually replaced it with the Sig P365 for EDC, but I still put it in the car lockbox occasionally. I'm actually about to send it to my gunsmith for a cerakote job just for kicks because this Hawkeye wants a black-and-gold pocket gun. :)

I've owned my LC9s for a few years now. I bought when it they first came out replacing the LC9. I think it is a perfect carry/pocket pistol. Feeds and fires Critical Duty 135gr like a champ.

I have one and my only real complaint is that it reacts with my sweat the way most blued Rugers do...it pits. Not a big issue. For a $248 gun, it has been flawless. Easy to carry, shoots pretty well if a bit snappy. My Shield 45 basically replaced it as I find it easier to shoot, has a bit more thump in caliber, and the finish has not reacted to my sweat. The EC9S has become a reliable little back up. Actually, it's the only 9mm I still own. It's well build with few things to go wrong with it. Magazines are cheap and easy to obtain. It gets the job done and doesn't cost a fortune to do so.

I actually rather like and prefer the single stack guns over the newer ones that jam 10 rounds into the same frame. They just feel better in my hand, balanced maybe? I like the concept of the EC9S enough that I may pick up a Glock 42 or 43 the first part of the year if ammo availability settles out. For now, I'll carry my Shield, but the little EC9S is tucked away in my emergency go-bag with a bit of emergency supplies. Honestly, a light, some money, a way to make fire, a tool, a bit of cord, and a small 9mm with an extra magazine fits in a bag no bigger than one of my wife's summer purses.

Regarding the finish. I've sweated all over my LC9S Pro, carried it while boating and have soaked it. Only wear I see is on the barrel hood. The slide finish is perfect. No finish issues at all.

Maybe the LC9 has a different slide finish than the EC9.

I think the EC9S has a bit rougher/lower end finish over the glossier "standard" Ruger bluing. Ever still, my sweat does the same thing to my gen 1 LCP and my LCP II. I've found that when it comes to a pocket/IWB pistol, my body chemistry requires a stainless construction if I dont want to constantly fiddle with the finish maintenance.

Snip....

Single stack 9s and jframes are my favorite hot weather carries.

Being that I live in FL.... hot weather is normal for me! ;)

Anyways, nothing wrong with single stack 9mm. I have a gaggle of 'em.

Ruger LC9s
S&W 3913
S&W 909
Walther P38
Walther P1
GLOCK 43
Erfurt P-08 Luger
Springfield Armory EMP 1911

They're fun guns for the range and carry.

I just picked up my EC9s a couple of hours ago. I have barely looked at it but like what I see so far. I did swap out the base plate so the I have the flat base plate on it and like that just fine. I will also order another mag for it after the holidays are over. I plan on painting the front sight too. The black on black front to back doesn't work well for me. I like a lime green front sight.

I sold my TCP and this will be its replacement ever though its not a direct replacement. The EC is bigger and heavier but for me 9mm ammo is so much easier because I reload for it.

I have had time to look over my new EC9s and play with it a little. Some of the things I have learned so far.

The take down lever is extremely hard to push down so you can field strip the gun. But its getting a little better. Also the mag is a real booger to fully load. I wish Ruger would have added $5 to the cost of the gun and included a mag loader. But I have the magazine loaded now and hope that helps break in the mag spring a little. And third this is not a pocket gun. Even though it sort of compares size wise to my S&W 442 it does not just slip into the front pocket of my jeans like the 442. And it doesn't draw out of the pocket as slick as the 442 does.

Do I regret buying it? No. But I will know more after I have test fired it. But when Ruger in their ad copy state its just a little bigger than the LCP they are not being truthful in my opinion. I have handled an LCPII and those just drop right in your pocket slick as a whistle.

The LCP compared to the LC9. They don't have the EC version but its the same gun just different sights.

I find the LC9/EC9 only works as pocket pistol in the summertime with cargo shorts.
Jean pockets are just too tight.

I too have a LCP but find it's a tight fit in jean pockets. At least with the soft Ruger / Uncle Mike's pocket holster.

Yes I have decided this isn't a pocket gun. But the more I have messed with it the better I like it. I am on the "notify me" list at Aggressiveguns for a spare mag. They run around $28 instead of the $40 or so that Ruger wants. For pocket guns I have my 442 and the 32 mag 431PD. Both slip in and out of a pocket like a smooth river rock worn slick by water.

The magazine is a little difficult near the end, the last round or so. My wife got tired of loading it but I didn’t mind.

My buddy has a LCP II and it’s much smaller. Those only came in .22 and .380 snd I wanted 9mm so the ec9s fit the bill for that.

It’s a really nice gun for the money. Ruger makes some really nice guns for the money.

The LC9S is my carry gun. Ruger might not be top tier but they make a solid gun. The only guns close to it in size and weight are the Sig 365 and the Springfield Hellcat. But I’m too invested in the Ruger with holsters and magazines to trade it at a loss and then still have to shell out $400 for a new gun, not to mention extra mags and holsters. Just not worth it to get three more rounds.

The trigger on the Ruger is excellent. A little too light, in my opinion. I much prefer a safety on a striker gun but I’ve owned and carried Glocks. For the Ruger, I insist on one and wouldn’t own the Pro version without one.

People complain about the finish but I’ve never had any rust. I also shoot the gun better than most others in the same size class like my Shield.

Well, they were in stock when I posted.:)

Sorry you missed them. I have purchased mags from grabagun and always got good service.

Here's another option:

A bit pricier, but in stock right now and Greg Cote is great to deal with.

Greg Cote is good guy to deal with. I bought a bunch of Mecgar FN Hi Power mags from him in the past. He even responds to emails right away.

Side note, I picked up a 9 round mag from Academy Sports. There gun section looked like it had been cleared out around Christmas time.
I paid $44.99 for it and it was the last one on the rack.

Ruger sells them for the same price:
