Apart from the obvious price Advantage for the SCCY are there any more reasons to choose the CPX -4 over the LCP 2 In .380 ACP?

LCP II.JPG I own a LCP II and have fired a Friends SCCY in .380. I would pick the Ruger. The trigger is better and it's seemed like it handled the recoil better. The .380 is snappy in both these guns. No malfunctions with the SCCY or the Ruger.

I second the motion of checking out the Ruger LCP MAX, as put forth by member 1KPerDay. You pick up a slightly smaller and lighter weight gun with the Ruger, more rounds (12+1 magazines are available vs. 10+1 for the SCCY CPX 4), a slightly better trigger (in my opinion), and Ruger Customer Service is very good should you have any problems with their guns.

Two total different animals. The only thing in common is the caliber.

Try to handle both, side by side if possible, and determine which one meets your need better.

Some people have a hard time properly handling small snappy autos. They blame jamming on the gun when it is actually the Nut behind the trigger. The SCCY may be the better choice for those people.

Good luck

To give you another idea as to the small size of the LCP MAX, compared to a couple of really tiny, pocket size semi-autos, with a Baby Browning .25 ACP on top, then a KelTec P3AT .380 ACP (which the LCP II is a close copy of), just below it and the the LCP MAX .380 ACP at the bottom.

This is a great thread. I currently have a Ruger LCP and a Kahr CM9 that I pocket carry. I usually carry the LCP. I think I will buy an LCP Max as well. Same size as the LCP and 3-5 more rounds.

I should know this but what is the difference between the LCP Max and the LCPII in .380ACP?

A lot! I have traded up from every version of the LCP, now have the Max

Forget Sccy, Kel Tec. The Ruger is not much more and better gun

Heck they will probably come out with a Max V 2.0 or something:what:

I've owned the LCP II, LCP MAX and SCCY CPX-3 (same as the 4, but no safety). The SCCY is the softest shooting by far, but that's its only advantage. It's not built to last if you plan to shoot it a lot. The P365-380 is about the same size, but is a much better pistol. I guess you get what you pay for. The MAX is a solid gun, but quite unpleasant to shoot. I have the Hogue HandALL grip on both of mine, and they still suck to shoot. I give up on them after 1 box of ammo and go back to the SIGs.

I traded my LCP in on an LCP Max a month or so ago. I couldn't hit anything with the LCP. My main carry guns are a Glock 43X with 15rd Shield Arms mags and Ruger LC9S Pro. I switch between pocket carrying the LC9s and OWB carrying my Glock 43X.

Shooting impressions on the LCP Max -

I like the front tritium night sight, I don't like the rear sight. It seems the "U-Style" notch in the rear sight is too deep. Shooting my 10 inch steel gongs at 21 feet, I found I needed to be able to see some of the slide in front of the front sight to hit my gongs. Meaning it took raising the top of the front above the top of the rear sight to hit my targets.

Other thoughts on shooting the Ruger LCP Max. The Glock style trigger is misleading. It has a spongy take-up until you hit that WALL!!! That wall reminded my of my LCP that this gun replaced. It's a HEAVY trigger pull to get past the wall. I'm not even sure why they included the Glock style trigger safety.

9rd rounds are easily thumbed into the magazine. The 10th round took using my UpLula pistol mag loader. A mag loader was included in the box. The mags eject nicely from the gun. I also like the wider grip of the gun. Using the included pocket holster in the front pocket of my jeans - it looks like I have a pistol in my pocket. I imagine it would hide better in baggy cargo shorts pockets.

Will this gun work it's way into my carry rotation? Probably not. Main reason is 380 acp is expensive and I would want to do a lot more practice with this gun before carrying it. And that goes back to the trigger, is it worth putting the time and expense in for that trigger? In my opinion - no. It will be a good gun for pocket carrying while taking a nap on the couch though.

ime, shooting the ruger lcp 380acp is dreadful, anything else must be better. my only current 380acp semiauto pistol is the s&w shield ez, which is ok but it’s not (yet, maybe never) in my carry rotation. i haven’t figured out what to do with it…maybe just keep it until infirmity ultimately takes inevitable and irreversible hold. the only other 380acp pistol that i found to be ok after 50 rounds and ccw-able in size is the s&w bodyguard (without laser), but i’m unwilling to invest in one to wring it out. all of these small 380acp carry pistols should properly be offered in 32acp.

I've tried several small 380's, two Rugers (LCP and LCP2) and a Taurus, and probably some others I don't remember. Didn't like any of them. They were snappy and downright unplesant to shoot and offered nothing to me that a bigger gun didn't offer. The only 380 I've found that I like is the old Beretta 84/Browning BDA series along with it's more recent Tisas Fatih 13 clone. But those are bigger, heavier, all metal, DA/SA type guns. Probably not what the OP is looking for.

If I had to pick one of the two listed, it would be the Ruger. I had a SCCY 9mm for a short while. About all I can say for it is that it worked and shot pretty well. It just felt really cheap (which it was), and I expected it to break at any moment. It never did mind you, but I felt like it was going to. Kicked pretty hard too as I remember.

I think the SCCY is more or less a copy of a Kel-Tec I used to own.

If so, the Kel-Tec went bang every time. The trigger was very stiff.

I carry my LCPII often. It's WAY smaller and lighter than a "pocket nine". It also has an excellent trigger.

The Ruger 9mm "EC Series" looks like a big LCP to me and they're not very expensive, if you wanted a similar 3rd option.

... then a KelTec P3AT .380 ACP (which the LCP II is a close copy of),
Strictly speaking, the original Ruger LCP was a close copy of KelTec P-3AT. The LCP II was a radical re-design of the LCP, which I wish KelTec did too. But George Kellgren moved on to other things.

No use for 380's personally. I would kind of like to pick up a LCP max to play with since I have 1000 rounds of 380 brass sitting around, but then I think of how much I hate separating 380 brass out of my 9mm brass and I remember why I got rid of all my 380's.

I'd loan you mine, if you were local.

I've had both a CPX-3 and LCPII for some time and both are great pistols. If you're looking to pocket carry then get the Ruger. If you're wanting something less snappy, easier to shoot accurately and more fun at the range then the SCCY is the better choice IME. The only thing I didn't care for with either pistol is that the triggers would sting my finger as a result of the over-travel. Haven't worked on the Ruger yet, but I did add an over-travel stop screw to the SCCY's trigger which fixed that issue. Now I can fire it all day without the sting to my trigger finger.

The SCCY is a belt gun. The Rugers are pocket-class guns, even the MAX. If you like the idea of the SCCY's capacity, but want to be assured you'll carry it with you a lot, go with the Ruger LCP-MAX.

If you want .380 in a package bigger than the MAX and smaller than the SCCY, there's the SiG-P365-380. It's pricier than the other options, though.

If small size isn't your primary concern, the SIG is easily the best of all the pistols in this discussion. Soft shooting, accurate, reliable, and will hold up for the long haul. I put Wilson Combat grip modules on both of mine, and the added palm swell made them even better with virtually no impact on concealability. Here they are with my MAXs.

I did go ahead and order a Ruger LCP Max. I don't mind shooting my LCP and I just chuck the brass - it's the only cartridge I own that I don't reload.
