Anybody selling easy to drop in DIY (i.e. no smithing required) aftermarket triggers for the Ruger M77's?

And if so, who has one and is it a world of difference?

I bought a Timney to have in case I screwed up the polishing of the factory trigger. As it turns out, I didn't have to take the Timney out of the package so I returned it to Midway for full credit. It was a little intimidating to polish it, since I'd never done anything like that before, but I ended up with a nice 3.5# trigger with no creep or overtravel. (Instructions are available online, but I did less contouring than the instructions indicated.) Worst case, how much would Ruger charge to sell me the parts I over-polished - $25?

This's the way your gunsmith would most likely approach it - I've provided this so that you'll understand what he's doing. He might also get a reduced-power spring from Wolff, or cut off no more than one link from the factory spring. The Ruger M77 owner's manual specifies how to remove the trigger from the action, so you can certainly break it down and look at it.

Lawyers don't like anyone to learn things, so let me encourage you to take this to a gunsmith. Your gunsmith will likely also charge you less for this service than you'd pay for the Timney; they consider them pretty simple triggers. Personally, I prefer the polished trigger to the drop-in adjustable kind. The polished trigger has no set screws to come unset at awkward moments years from now, and to that extent, they're that much safer.
