I picked up an older Mark II with a 4" bull barrel last weekend. It's a beater, poor finish, missing the front sight, and full of gunk.

It cleaned up nice, and runs like a champ now, but I'm at a loss on the front sight.

Numrich's diagram shows only a blade and a screw. I looked at a new 22/45 and it has a slot head screw. Of course, I was unable to take it apart at the store.

BUT, mine has a threaded part coming out of the barrel. As best I can tell, it's integral to the barrel. It has a thread protector looking thingy which is open at both ends, flat on the sides, and has a hole drilled through which is parallel to the bore when tightened.

My question: What the heck do I have? Do I just buy a blade and screw, and the screw attatches to the thread protector looking piece? Or do I have some kind of Bubba-ized POJ that will have to be drilled and tapped?:uhoh:

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I think we need a picture to tell what you're talking about. It would also help to know which version of the MK II you have. My standard model MK II has a barrel band for a sight base, and the blade is held in place by a pin driven in from the left side -- and there is no hole on the right.

You may have a gun which has been modified to take a suppressor.

Vern,

Thanks for the reply. I'll try to get pics up later. Mine is the bull barrel model, I'm not sure if there is a designation.

I'm familiar with the setup on the standard model, but this one takes a blade which mounts on the top of the barrel via a screw, similar to what's on many rifles, like a Marlin Model 60.

Got the same gun...

I've got the same gun and the front sight is mounted with a screw. I'd bet that if you soak that threaded stud with WD-40 or similar, you can then remove it with a pair of pliers. I think that the screw head was broken off and that lost the sight and left the stud you describe.

My Bull Barrel uses a screw to hold the front sight in place. I put a hi-viz on mine with no problem. Radio sounds like he is correct about the stripped head.

Upon further inspection, with magnification (I'm getting more blind by the day), the threaded stud is NOT integral to the barrel. It is approximately 1/8 inch in the barrel, and 1/16 on top, where the "thread protector" is.

It's definitely not a striped screw, it's made nice, and I'm sure it serves a purpose, I just don't know what it is. The supressor idea sounds logical.

I think I can remove the stud, but I'm sure I'll ruin it in the process, which I guess is OK as long as I don't booger up the barrel and it's threads.

Does anyone know what size the front sight screw is?

Thanks for the help so far.

PS, Flinch, if you still have the ramp and screw, I'm in the market. :)
