Ruger P Series?

The Ruger P-Series are tough and overengineered...typical Ruger. IME they are not as accurate as a Glock in the same caliber. I don't have any pictures, but the P89 I had would shoot a group about 1" larger at 25 yards than my Glock 17 with the same ammo.

Just my .02,

My P95 is as accurate as the G26. Kinda moved away from the P95 after getting the Glock since the latter is so easy to use...point and shoot. But took it out again a while back and the love affair was renewed. Heard good things about the P90/P97 and am going to have a look at both of these models at the fun show this weekend.

I posted this in the "show off your .45" thread. It's the qualification target for a class I took a couple weeks ago. I started real good, got flustered. STill, the ragged hole represents about 2/3 of the rounds fired.

My first auto was a Ruger P89. It was not accurate at all. I could shoot rental guns I wasn't used to better than my P89. Other shooters who weren't as new as I was couldn't shoot my P89 very well either.

A buddy had a P90. It was more accurate than it had any business being based on its price.

Generally the reputation is that the .45s are much more accurate than the 9mms so I don't think these two guns were aberations. Also, the reputation is that the P95 is a bit more accurate than the P89.

They are all pretty much indestructable. They are built like tanks, they are easy to take down, they are pretty simple machines. Good beginners gun. They are a bit thick and feel quite blocky (they feel kind of like holding a brick). Some people hate the look, I kind of like it.

I think my CZ 75B is a great improvement over my old Ruger P89, but they are cheap so I am thinking about picking up a P95 or P90 sometime anyway.

KP95DAO

I have the KP95DAO as a range and home-defense gun. Just aim and shoot. The P95 is a tremendous value: Accurate, reliable, affordable, US-Made, and unlike the Glock the P95 has a metal guide rod and sights. I don't know how many hundreds of rounds I have through mine but it's been 100%, never a failure of anykind.
Many folks have criticized it as ugly and or bulky. In comparison to the Glock 17 (the Glock it should be fairly compared against) it's larger in some dimensions but smaller in others. Looks wise, I find it much better looking than many of it's competitors.
Good luck, either is a fine firearm.

P94

I can shoot 1 1/2" groups offhand at 15 yards with my KP94DAO using most types of ammo. It's also the only semi auto I own which has had NO failures to perform when using factory ammo. The long DAO trigger has actually made me into a better shooter. Just keep squeezin' till it goes bang.

the best of the ruger P series are the p-90 and p-97. rugers are big and overengineered (the p-90 was originally designed to house the full loaded 10mm) and are likely the most durable pistol being produced today...not facy or smooth, but boringly rugged (like a honda accord or toyota camery)

the .45 p-90/97 will give any factory .45 pistol a run for the money when it comes to accuracy. i prefer the p-97 only because the grip feels better in my hand

I had a P89 for a while.

It's a good gun.

Downsides are excessive bulkiness, high muzzle flip due to high bore axis, a sub-par trigger, and mediocre accuracy.

Upsides are price and extreme reliability - I'm not sure someone could break that gun if they were trying.

For a truck/house/range gun it's a good buy

Have both the P89 (stainless safety/decock) and the P95 (stainless decock only). Had the P89 first which I bought new a few years ago and then quite recently got the P95 used from a distressed seller at a very low price. Both have proven to be absolutely no questions asked dead bang reliable. In my hands both are equally accurate. The P89 took some time to become accurate (being new either the gun needed a good break in period or I as a new shooter at the time needed that good break in period...probably both). The P95 was accurate from the first shot. I have small hands but they both grip quite well for me. Have absolutely no complaints about either. Big, bulky, ugly, ergonomic as a brick, with a long trigger pull seem to be the most common complaints..but not from me. If I were starting over and could only have one I would go for the slightly smaller P95 in stainless simply because it is slightly smaller and the trigger seems a little more "crisp" (if that makes any sense).

I hate to be one of those guys that tells you to buy something you didn't ask about but you should really skip the Rugers and Get a CZ75.

Just went out shooting last weekend and a guy was dumping rounds in the dirt with his ruger. He grabbed my cz and was on paper at least for most shots.

You can thank me later.

I have both...

...CZ-75B and Ruger P95-DC.

The CZ has been more reliable, more durable, and in my experience more accurate.

That being said, the general reputation for both is quite good and they are in the same price range.

CZ-75 15-rounders can still be found but a bit more pricey to purchase than the Mec-Gar alternatives for the P-Series.

If push came to shove, I'd recommend the CZ-75B over the P95-DC but I can't see where you would go wrong with either.

Good luck!

My P94 .40 cal is the most dependable, accurate handgun I have ever fired, didn't think I would like it more than any of the others that i've had/have but it is...
