I’ll admit my ignorance here. That’s is a very nice looking revolver. Being a Ruger, I’m sure it’s a very well built gun. My Redhawk is. So why aren’t they more popular like the Smiths? Triggers not as good? Bad sights? Poor grip ergonomics? I think I would own that gun in a heartbeat.

I remember the '70s.

I was "Into Guns" and thought I knew a little bit about them.

At that time, The people that I listened to thought that Colt was number 1, Smith was number 2, and anything else was junk.

I remember seeing the Ruger guns and thinking they were clunky looking and obviously not worth having.

Boy, Did I miss the boat on that one, or what?

It's O.K., I have since found out what the real deal is and I'm now a fan and owner of several Ruger Revolvers that have proven their worth.

I think that silly thinking hurt the Ruger guns back then, and sadly the "Six Series" is no longer in production.

I think I would own that gun in a heartbeat.

Now you are talking.

The "Six Series" pistols are slowly becoming collectible, and their prices are going up. If you see one you like, grab it up!

My speed six was $350.00 back in the mid '90s when I bought it, and I see them for $500.00 now on the auction sites.

Better get while they are still affordable!

(Edit: Fast frank, you live up to your name. I was typing while you posted...
It’s amazing we both said almost the same thing. Around here, though, S&W was king, Colt queen.)

When I was just getting into shooting my first gun was a Colt Diamondback .22. My second gun was a 6” S&W 27.

A buddy of mine had a S&W Model 18 .22 And a Python.

We back and forthed a bit about who had the better gun.

Then another buddy showed up with a Ruger Security Six. And, we just kinda told him it was a decent gun but, we were both thinking “well bless his heart...all he’s got is a Ruger...”

We were wrong. Didn’t know it at the time but the Six Series was a damned fine gun. It just entered the revolver market at about the time LE was moving into autos and just never got a foothold. S&W and Colt were just too entrenched.

I now own a Police Service Six 4” and a 2 3/4” Speed Six. The Service Six is an NYPD gun and pretty scarce.

Just outstanding guns.

The CHP version is a great gun. There couldn’t have been many. That’s an outstanding find.

Yep, with classic Colts and Smiths climbing into the 4-digit realm, more people are turning to the underappreciated old Rugers. As they realize how nice they are compared to most modern, soulless, MIM and polymer wheel guns, the prices are starting to rise....
Paid $600 for my minty 4" Sec6 with square butt target grips and don't regret it for a second.

I think many people felt the Ruger investment castings were a "cheap" manufacturing process (compared to forgings) which would not stand the test of time. Turns out nobody does castings as well as Rugers Pinetree facility and, in my experience, they have turned out much more durable and hard-wearing. Most old Smiths and some Colts I pick up have timing/lockup issues. I have never, personally, seen a Ruger with timing problems.
Now, Ruger is embracing MIM, ugh. Wish they would stick to "cheap" castings....

That’s exactly what I figured. Thanks guys. Looks like I’ll need to invest in one or two. I certainly like the looks of the guns. If I can find grips to fit my hands, I’m sure I’ll enjoy shooting them.
