What Kendal Black said. The transfer bar safety allows you to carry a Single Six safely with all six chambers loaded. To safely carry an "old" model single six loaded you had to leave the chamber under the hammer empty. Watch the movie "True Grit" with John Wayne and Kim Darby. John explains to Kim why he leaves one chamber empty in his "old style" single action revolver. "So I don't blow MY foot off." he says.

Love my "old" model Single Six and only carry it with 5 rounds. You might also notice that the new model Single Six has an adjustable rear sight and a ramp front sight (though Ruger has made some new model versions with fixed sights too).

I've a second "Old Model" Single-Six in the que! (but will have to wait another two months to bring it home). This one has the second cylinder bored for .22 WMR. All I need now is a second pair of black pearl composite grips and some gunleather for 'em! Yeehaw.

My new model Single Six (adjustable rear sights) is my favorite revolver. You won't go wrong with either the old model or new. You may remember that sometime back Ruger produced a metal advertising sign featuring the old model Single Six with non-adjustable rear sights and a rattlesnake in the background. The caption on it says "Natural habitat for the Single Six". I have that sign on my wall where I reload. I hope someday to pick up the old model.

I've owned both the old model and new model. A stainless New Model Super Single Six was one of the two most accurate .22LR revolvers I've ever owned.

Like your well worn Single Six. Reminds me a lot of the first Single Six I bought around that same time period. Had the same Hunter holster like the one you have in the photo and a cartridge belt for it too.

Ha
I had the cartridge belt too. The darn thing shrank until it no longer goes around me.
It fit fine when I was thirteen and that gun was new.

that's why I bought two heritage big bore revolvers in 45 colt they have this transfer bar safety and are very nice just like the rugers and shoot excellent groups and they are way more prettier than their 22 counterparts!!

You know, I had the same thing happen to me! Had a similar problem with my jeans from back then too. Anything I wore just up and shrank on me.

Must be some sort of conspiracy going on here to make me have to go out and buy new belts and pants!

My Old Model Rugers have had the better triggers. It's a question of whether you are going to carry it around ir not.

I have 4 ruger single sixes. An old one that belonged to my Grandpa made in 1961 and updated in 1973. I have all the old parts for it. I even have a Hunter Holster like in the picture above. I have a new one about 5 years old that I have barely shot and two 5.5" barreled single sixes in 32 mag. Yippee! I really like those two guns.

A small ruger single action ought to be mandatory to own. They are just useful little boogers.

It's funny but it seems like the older Single Sixes and Hunter holsters just naturally went together!

While I agree the Hunter holsters are a good match with Ruger revolvers currently my Single-Six rides in a Longhorn 10-64 holster. In reality it's very difficult to tell the difference between the Hunter and Longhorn holsters.

Here is a photo of the holster but that's not the Single-Six... That H&R revolver is long gone lol.
