What Kendal Black said. The transfer bar safety allows you to carry a Single Six safely with all six chambers loaded. To safely carry an "old" model single six loaded you had to leave the chamber under the hammer empty. Watch the movie "True Grit" with John Wayne and Kim Darby. John explains to Kim why he leaves one chamber empty in his "old style" single action revolver. "So I don't blow MY foot off." he says.I was on Ruger's web page that say's new model Single Six. What is the differnce between the new and old model?
Very nice

Like your well worn Single Six. Reminds me a lot of the first Single Six I bought around that same time period. Had the same Hunter holster like the one you have in the photo and a cartridge belt for it too.
Ha
I had the cartridge belt too. The darn thing shrank until it no longer goes around me.
It fit fine when I was thirteen and that gun was new.
While I agree the Hunter holsters are a good match with Ruger revolvers currently my Single-Six rides in a Longhorn 10-64 holster. In reality it's very difficult to tell the difference between the Hunter and Longhorn holsters. It's funny but it seems like the older Single Sixes and Hunter holsters just naturally went together!
"New Model" is an old term. Single Sixes since 1973 have been new models. It means there is a transfer bar safety in there, a feature I warmly endorse and recommend!
