I was at the local range earlier this evening and decided to rent a few autoloaders. I **love** Ruger DA revolvers, but I never gave Ruger autoladers a second thought. I've actually publically stated that I'd never buy one as long as Sig, Beretta, Glock and HK were still in business.

I want to let the world know that I was wrong. I didn't buy the SR9, but I must admit that the SR9 is an **awesome** little gun. I'M SHOCKED...

I rented a few guns this evening: the Beretta 90two, the CZ 75, the Glock 17, the HK P30, and the SR9. I actually rented the SR9 twice I was so impressed. I was shocked at how well I shot that pistol. I will go so far as to say that I've never shot an autoloader better than the SR9. My groups looked like shotgun shot with some of the other guns. I really don't understand why people like autoloaders so damn much. I guess my hands are just not built right for most of them. The SR9 was an exception to this personal trend. In previously visits, I did best with the Beretta 90two, but my SR9 groups absolutely killed my 90two groups. My CZ groups beat the 90two groups as well. The glock and the p30 were easily the worst of the day. The slim SR9 grips and the bore axis make that gun very, very easy to shoot.

Of course, after I burned through a couple of boxes of the 9mm ammo, I took out my GP100 and shot some 158 grain .357 magnum rounds. My GP100 groups were better than the SR9, but that is not a fair comparison. I find it odd that I can shoot heavy .357 magnum loads better than I can shoot any 9mm pistols. I think that I will always shoot revolvers better than autoloaders. A good revolver just feels better to me. I am not a good shot with autoloaders, but I consider myself to be pretty good with my GP100. I can add the SR9 to the list of guns that I shoot well.

*If* I ever buy an autoloader, it will be an SR9. I am sold on this gun. I can't say that this gun would work for everyone, but it works well for me.

I was skeptical that this gun could compete with springfield's xds, and s&w's m&p lines. After handling one the other day, I think it will be serious competiton. I haven't had the pleasure of shooting one yet, but hope to soon. This gun looks great, feels great, is slim enough to conceal but still holds 17 rounds, and the ergos are perfect for me. I raise it and the sights are automatically lined up. It seemed like the gun was tailor made for me. Not to mention the fact that they are flying off the shelves. I will have one.

Dear Fisherman77,

I also shoot revolvers better than autos (as a general rule). I once shot a bullseye match with a .45 Gold Cup and scored 127 out of 300. The very next week, I bought a GP100, sighted it in and shot a 222. That being said, I agree the SR9 is a good choice for us revolver fans: the thin grip has a revolver-like FEEL to it. I recently shot 94% on a qualification course with my SR9. The course starting at 25 yards and slowly working in to 3 yards.

Strangely enough, I was getting a lot of recoil with the SR9 using a relaxed Weaver stance, a hard Weaver stance, a hard grip, whatever. Finally, I decided to just do what I KNEW worked and switched to a good old StressFire stance and BOOM, everything started working. Thank you Massad Ayoob!

I generally don't like nines, but I held an SR9 at the local shop and it felt great! Ruger did a fantastic job on that one. I'll have to see if I can rent one somewhere and try it :).
