LOVE when that happens, still wait for it to happen to me!I have one. It's an early example, so early it's built on the old I frame, rather than the later and longer J frame. I bought it 20 years ago. I walked into my local gun shop. I saw this (mislabeled as a Model 17) and almost broke my arm whipping out my wallet. The manager, who knew me well, was suspicious when I didn't even try to haggle:
Coolest looking .22 Smith Ever! but I can’t, anybody wants it, let me know, they shipI have a 2" square butt Model 34-1 and would have found it difficult to pass by a 4" version like you found at your LGS.

That's a super nice price for a Model 34, even for 20 years ago! I paid over twice that in picking up this Model 34 for my wife.
Nifty little Kit guns!
Very True! Not worth it! and the rear blade was replace and stock is a target! While $500 may seem like a deal, that gun has considerable wear. I'd gladly pay twice that for a mint specimen with correct stocks and box with literature.
