S&W M&P 15 AR review

I'm considering picking up a S&W M&P15 AR - has anyone had any experience with this rifle? Thanks!

My son has one and has not had any issues. He has the optics ready one and they have the $100 rebate now. CDNN has the best prices I have found.

Pat Rogers thinks well of them. When a guy who witnesses 4 or 500k a year of .223 going down range likes something, it's probably good to go.

I know several folks who have them and all are pleased. I ain't Pat Rogers though.

Happy with mine a year into it. Has handled a wide variety of ammo, hasn't hinted at malfunctioning. Even let it get a little dirty just to see what happened, and it hummed right along without issue. I have the "M&P15X" model, with the Troy railed handguard and the Troy rear sight (fixed A2 front sight). I'm slightly snobbish about guns (not overly, I don't think) and the Smith & Wesson AR-15 has met all of my expectations and then some. I would still like to own a Colt next, just because... but I wouldn't rule out another M&P15 down the line.

Honestly, buckeye just said exactly what I'd have said. Except, I like my M&P more than the two Colts that I shoot regularly.

I'm a bit of a snob as well, and there is nothing on the M&P15X that irks me.

Also, I'm old school in my tastes, so it not like me to say....

My M&P is probably the most fun rifle that I own.

Awesome looking M&P! I've heard the S&W is extremely reliable - which is something I greatly appreciate. Any issues from an accuracy perspective? I was tracking the CDNN $599 sale and was considering...but I wanted to hear from the field what they thought of this rifle. Thanks!

C919, it looks like you have your EOTech sitting on a rail extension of some sort. If so, what is it and why do you have it?

i bought a m&p 15a off a coworker and i honestly believe it is one of the best ar-15 rifles out there. Only ones that ive seen that seem better quality are high end stuff like noveske, lmt, etc. Worked great and was extremely reliable shot about 200 rounds through it (i know not much of a torture test) without a jam, and to add to that when i cleaned it for the first time i pulled lots of carbon and other gunk out of the chamber because he shot it with a .22 conversion kit and never cleaned out the chamber properly (first ar 15 he owned and is a bit of a slob). After cleaning it all out it looked like new and i would take it over my former ars (bushmaster and rock river arms) anyday.

I have the M&P15T model with the troy quadrail and folding front and rear Troy sights. Excellent rifle - I have about 1000 rounds through it with no problems whatsoever, using a variety of ammo from Wolf through Winchester.

Regarding accuracy, using the steel cased Hornady TAP training 55gr ammo, which is quite possibly the best kept secret around regarding extremely accurate ammo at low cost, it will consistently group an inch at 100 yards, using nothing but a cheap chinese bipod and 6x scope off a bench. Well recommended, and as someone else mentioned, CDNN is the place to buy right now, whichever sub model you pick.

The S&W AR is a decent stick, but I think you can do better for the money. You can get a rig from Bravo Company and know you have a 'sure thing' for not much more money. The S&W is limited by the 1/9 twist and 4140 barrel.

I don't know if you've read my M4 thread, but it sure seems like the BCM is the official THR M4 choice.

I have and swear by my MP15T. It fires anything I feed it and runs 1" groups at 100 yards with no issues. The only issue I've ever heard of with these rifles is that they had problems accepting some magazines (Pmags among others) but this was remedied years ago. I shoot 30rd Pmags and have no issues whatsoever. If you're looking for a new AR these are among the best.

Finally got mine out to the range Saturday. It's the m&p15 opics ready shooting just magpull buis until I figure out what I'm going to do sight wise. Anyway pmags and American eagle xm193 I fired 650 rounds (well me and 3 other people). Zero malfunctions. Zero issues and was getting 4" 100 yard groups with the magpull iron sights. Firing 30rd at a time ad two mags per target got us 4" groups for 60rounds

id say a scope would cut it drastically because the was a dense cluster of around 3" and then about 10 or 15 pulling it out to 4"

overall very happy wanted 100% reliable and it was! 599 at cdnn I'm happy
