I posted ealer about wanting a gun and have done alot of research and came up with the S&W M&P15

Any suggestions or comments to something else?

I wanted a good gun and I understand the AKs have issues with accuracy, but the ARs are much better.

I just bought a Stag AR-15 2T -- it's the "tactical" version. You can see the various models on the Stag Website http://www.stagarms.com/rightrifles.htm

For the "standard" S&W models, Stag builds both the uppers and lowers. For the S&W A and T models, S&W has taken over building the uppers in house. They are now using LMT bolt carrier groups instead of the CMT that Stag uses. Personally, I don't have any problem with my CMT, but the LMT's are known as a bit higher quality. Also, the Stags use the Sampson free-float rail system, which is a proprietary copy of the Troy system S&W uses (i.e., same thing but cheaper). The S&W tactical also comes with a Larue BUIS - the Stag uses an ARMS #40L. Altogether, the Stag tactical version is about $300-$400 cheaper than the S&W Model 15T.

There have been some reported problems with Stag rifles shooting high. I haven't zeroed my rifle yet, so I don't know. If it's a problem, Stag has been quick to replace the entire upper.

I'm happy with my Stag rifle. I don't think the S&W 15T's are $300 nicer!

HTH,

Jim
