Greetings, I have this old S&W 1902 1st change 38 spc. I need a new main spring and triger return spring. Local shops and S&W parts have been of no help. Anybody out there with some helpful suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

Sounds like you might have an old S&W Military Police. Internal parts should be same as old K38 Outdoorsman. Contact Numrich aka Gun Parts, Inc and see if they can help.

Thanks for reply, I contacted S&W spoke to "Roy" he identified it as a 38 spc. M&P mod.1902 1st change mfg.1904. But had no parts suggestions.
I'll try Gun Parts Inc.
Thanks

I suspect that "Roy" was Smith & Wesson's in-house historian, Roy G. Jimks, who is likely the world's formost authority on elderly Smith & Wesson handguns.

Now, there is a problem. The internal lockwork of the 1902 Hand Ejector is not the same as the much later K-38 Outdoosman. The earlier revolver used a mainspring similar to current K-frame revolvers, so that shouldn't be an issue. However the 1902 didn't have a rebound slide and coil spring arrangement to work the trigger, as was the case later, and finding a spring will be somewhere between dificult and impossible.

I would suggest that you contact Jim Supica, who is a member of this forum, so you can send him an e-mail or personal message. He may well know where obsolete parts might be available. Also Mr. Supica's website will be found at www.armchairgunshow.com

Hopefully everyone will keep in mind that all of Smith & Wesson's K-frame revolvers were not made the same as when they started in 1899. When obtaining repair parts you have to be specific as to the model, and sometimes the change.

38 spc.mod. 1902

Thanks for the reply,I contacted gun parts Inc. they said they have the correct parts? I'm waiting for a pic of the return/rebound trigger srping from them. Mine is not a coil it's a leaf spring style. Thanks again
