The negatives to the WMR in a handgun are the ammo cost is a lot higher and the WMR blast isn’t much fun, plus even a good .22 WMR doesn’t seem to have the accuracy of a good .22 LR.I had a 17-2 I sold off a few years ago then got a 617 to replace it. i sold off the second 17-3 a few years ago, I am looking to get either a .22mag revolver or a .22mag M&P. any thoughts?
You did a good job on those grips! I accidentally bought square butt grips for a round butt a while back and they never did fit right. I ended up buying the right grips to finish it correctly.Installed the Ahrends grips today. Had to inlet them a bit since they were round butt and the 17-4 are square. The feel much better than the factory targets.

Got my no dash when my dad passed in 2019. I will never part with it.Great find! My uncle passed back in 2001 and I wound up with a Model 17, no dash, that was supposedly born in 1958 which makes it one year younger than me. It`s very accurate, much more so than I and only had a little bluing wear at the muzzle. Enjoy your 17 and I`ll bet it`ll be one of the last guns you`d ever sell.
What you're looking for is a M48. I have a 6" M48-4 (1980 vintage) and really like it It's loud as hell, and at dusk leaves a pretty nice fireball. .22 Mag ammo is generally aimed at rifles, so the powder is relatively slow burning. I wouldn't say the blast isn't much fun, but it does have a bit more recoil than .22LR, so good groups are more of a challenge. I shoot mine pretty well, and on a rest, it is a close 3rd behind my Ruger 22/45 MkIII and my S&W M41 in the accuracy department. Like Riomouse says, the ammo is more expensive, and unless you just want a magnum version, unless you plan to hunt with it, it might not be one you'd use a lot.I had a 17-2 I sold off a few years ago then got a 617 to replace it. i sold off the second 17-3 a few years ago, I am looking to get either a .22mag revolver or a .22mag M&P. any thoughts?
