S&W Model 629

My first own .44 Magnum was a Ruger SRH and I loaded up some pretty hot ammo for it that but it is a heavy mare's leg of a gun and so I had bought a 4" 629 and a 5" 629 with the unfluted cylinder. I gave the SRH to my oldest son and the 5" model to his little brother. When I kind of inherited a S&W 29-2 with the S prefix serial number, I sold the 629 but the 29-2 will stay in the family and is shot with very moderate loads that shoot well.

This will be my first 44 magnum 6”.

Welcome to the Club, carlson1!

I got mine ~35 years ago to complement the Marlin 1894s that I had purchased a couple of years prior.

If you are a reloader you may also find that gearing up for .44spc production is handy. ;)

Enjoy!

EDIT:

I found a pic of my RB 3" s/s 629-1 that I took along with one of my CA Bulldogs ...

This one showcases my In-Search-Of-The-Perfect-Grips journey:

The Winner (so far), Pachmayr Diamond Pros.

BTW, the OEM wooden grips would leave my hand bloody after a couple of shots.

The search for the best fitting grips is an odyssey. I like Nills on K&L frames and on a round butt 625 but on a SB 29 or 629 they feel rather large. The Nill grips distribute the recoil well, though.
