I just saw this on the news: http://www.wsoctv.com/video/13224499/index.html?source=

Sorry, it's video only so far, no text article yet. Video starts out talking about two slain officers, then moves onto the story...

Says that a plastic part inside their .40 S&W (I assume M&Ps, too blurry to confirm) pistols will crack and not allow them the shorter trigger pull after the first shot is fired. Biggest problem is that they've said some of the units had this part fall out when changing the mags, causing the pistol to be completely inoperable. Story also says S&W is coming out to repair all of their guns (assume they've got a beefier part to put in place of the plastic one).

I posted this for a couple reasons.

One, to get more information out there, see if anyone can get more details on this problem, and what series of guns it may effect, like is it the M&Ps? Is it only the .40?

Two, once we know more, then anyone with a similar model may want to investigate their chances of the problem occuring, and determine what action they can take accordingly.

Hope it helps/interests some folks out there...

Hey Tecumseh, I think you're right. I just got this reply from a local 'hometown' LEO on AR15, which is what I was coming here to post:

It is the sear housing on the SW99, not the M&P, that continues to break. Smith is shipping approximately 1600 replacement sears to CMPD in order for the repairs to be conducted by department armorers. This is a problem that has been present on these pistols since the agency transitioned over from the 4046 several years ago.

I couldn't tell from the video what it was, and most of the sigmas I've seen were two tone, and although they didn't state the weapon he was using was the same as the weapon w/ the problem, I assumed they wouldn't buy the cheaper sigmas, and would have bought the M&Ps, so I was wanting someone to confirm what model was affected. Glad it wasn't the M&P, as I've heard mostly good things about that model.

Hope it helps clear anything up, if anyone else is hearing of problems, to learn at least in this case it wasn't the M&P...

The bad thing is that CMPD has only been using this weapon platform for a little over a year.
