You aren't off your rocker, but you may have been bitten by the single action bug. There is no known cure & you just gotta have more.;)

I like them too.

There are reasons why the SAA is still being made, and made in quantities exceeding Colt production.

The original Colt SAA was a compact, comfortable, powerful pistol.

I have read that 40 grains of black would push a 255 at 1000 fps. That is a lot of power in a small package.

I do not find all SA sixguns to fit me equally well. The SAA and its direct copies seem fine. There is something not quite right (for me) about the New Vaquero; mine felt a bit strange, though it pointed well enough, and the recoil tended to slam my hand rather than roll gently upward. To be clear, I am saying the NV is an ill fit for me; I am not saying it is a bad grip or bad product.

I need to fire more rounds, particularly heavier loads, through my Ruger Bisley, to know whether I like its recoil characteristics.

+1 - I had a New Model Blackhawk.
It's about 1/3 bigger than the original (and the clones).
That was too big for my short fingers.

I now have a Uberti.
It's the same size as the original 1873 Peacemaker.
Fits perfectly & I look dang good with it on too ;)

The single action has been pleasing men for 150 years, so there is no reason you should be surprised. I personally prefer Ruger, while others like Colt and Colt clones. Find one that fits your hand and you will find out, like many of us, that you can't live with only one. Different barrel lengths, calibers, and of course, the beauty of exotic wood, ivory or bone grips, charcoal bluing and the list goes on. Don't forget a great holster and belt. The single action can be the most personalized gun you own.

Then, you have the different grip/grip frame sizes and styles. There's the plowhandle, The Lightning/Thunderer bird's head, The Ruger bird's head, the Single Six plowhandle, the Bearcat Plowhandle, and a plethora of Italian BP replica plowhandles.

Yep, the plowhandle grip feels good.
I need to fondle a new Blackhawk, before I order one in .44 Spl
