Hope they get the guy that shot him.

I hope he gets the needle.
Agreed.

On a lighter note, though, anybody else catch the article's mention of the deputy's "revolver" having been drawn when he was found? I wonder if that is just a typical news media error about the gun, or if the deputy WAS actually carrying a revolver instead of a semi-auto.....
Seems odd, if true, but possible I suppose.just sorta stood out to me....

SADLY the perp will NEVER get the needle.

He will be a burden to the taxpayers, and will work the legal system for decades.

probably write a book, get a few law degrees.

denzel or sean penn will play him in the movie.

best wishes to the officers family, RIP.

Actually, criminals on death row use more taxpayer funds than others, due to the appeals and lawyers.

But don't let that get in the way of your rant.

Very true. The last figures I saw said it costs about $50,000 a year to keep a convict in prison. It costs more than a million to execute him.

So let's do the math. Average gang banger is 18-35 (guessing here). Life term without parole could be anywhere from 30-50 years. (Or as in most cases, the bastard will "learn" for 10 years in prison, get paroled then go back within 5 years).

30x50,000 = 1,500,000
50x50,000 = 2,500,000
1x1,000,000 = 1,000,000

The other minus involved is that several gangs are more involved in prison than on the streets. Personally, for crimes as horrible as killing a cop, the shooter should be executed within 90 days IMO.

I base all my opinion and knowledge from various "Gang" documentaries, so no I'm not an expert.

I notice when you hit the link the updated version is what you get rather than the original article. That is a good deal.

The Revolver mention is curious to me also, plus they found another weapon laying around. Sounds like they are going to be busy trying to figure this one out. Hope they get some good prints off the other weapon.:uhoh:

Only thing I can think of regarding the revolver vs the pistol is officers are known for the weapon they carry and if undercover (sort of) the revolver does not give them up as quick, if searched by others.

They mention the other Sheriff's death still outstanding, and a pretty good reward. Still, ready, willing and able to be collected. Sacramento is quickly becoming noted for investigations and not closing them with arrests and convictions. Just parley that into civilian crimes and it is a huge trend.
:what:

How quickly some are willing to suspend the rights to a fair trial (and appeals) that so many have given so much to preserve.

Uh...no. Guilty is guilty. I think the odds are against this criminal. After he gets his trial he should fry.

Everyone should get a fair trial. The appeals process is not about whether the guy did it or not. It is about whether every T was crossed and every I dotted.

You're allowed a fair trial and appeals. But I dont think the Constitution ever said you get X numbers of appeals over Y years.

Some people are just plain ol' murderers, convicted or admitted, or both. Stanley Tucci Williams, for example, killed an innocent family and assault prison guards, lost all his appeals then suddenly "changed" and wanted clemency.

In perhaps the only thing Schwarzengger has done right in the past 18 months, he denied and Williams was put to death.

Why is killing a cop more horrible than killing a toddler, or a young mother or, for that matter, anyone else?

I'd never been to Sacramento for most of my life. I first went there about Six years ago. What a hell hole that place is. I was stunned by how ghetto my states capitol is.
You should have seen it 50 years ago when the entire area between the Capitol and the river was skid row. Now THAT was a hell hole!

where do I sign up for that job...spend $.02 on a .22 and pocket $999,999.98

seriously though, I've always thought being imprisoned for life is far more cruel than a short drop and a quick stop.

Like so many that are involved in Gangs, this person caught, is 16, a youth. A criminal, now he will be dealt with, as an adult, I figure.

He should not see the outside for a very long time. Say it was an accident and the officer died not on purpose but on accident the young man will still go to jail. He should not have run, he was scared some say. Well we need to make better decisions, I'd think.
