Hey all,
Some pics of my Savage 10FP .308 with Bell and Carlson Duramaxx stock. The stock has the black/grey web pattern. Enjoy.

very nice. how does she shoot? any other mods on it?

She shoots so sweet. No other mods, except that I lightened the trigger. I included a pic of a 100 yd group, shot with TTI armory 168 gr HBPT. Not the best group I've shot with the rifle (I took it out yesterday, a week after this pic was taken, and did better), but I was on about 2 hours of sleep, 5 cups of coffee and no food during this particular range trip, so I was shaking like a leaf.

I think the Savage accutrigger is awesome! Here's my 10FP:

I avg about 3/4 MOA with it from a bipod on a bench using 168gr match stuff and I'm pretty much a noob.

There's a guy who recently posted pics on SH of a 0.14" group he shot :what: with his Savage. He also shot a fly :D .

Thx, Nic. I was pretty nervous but I figured I couldn't screw it up too bad. Just used some cheap paint from Lowes and some cardboard with holes cut in it.

My 1st try was too light so I added to it to get where I am now. I might have about 2hrs in it.

:)

Nic,

Looks great. Thanks for posting the pics. It looks almost like what I had envisioned it to be.

Sanchez,

What stock are you using? The cammo job looks first rate also. What did you use?

OKAY, I ain't about to be left out of this topic! I'm the 10FP Poster Child!

Mesa,

Please detail for us what you have there. Looks nice, and from the book I will assume it's a NightForce scope. But what stock are you using?

That's a Duramaxx stock. The length of pull was too short for me so I went to work (at work), with some Alumminum a belt/disk grinder, an Endmill machine, and a lathe and made the spacer. It was high grade Aluminnum, VERY light, and very strong. Turned out pretty good I think.

Yes, that's a NightForce scope. NXS 3.5-14x50. I love it!

Let's see...the drag bag, scope cover, muzzle cover, and cheek pad are BlackHawk Industries, there's an Otis cleaning kit, and the woodland camo sand bags are homemade, water proofed, and filled with kitty litter, (light but solid). The Harris Bi-Pod is made from 2 different style bipods. The friction type legs on the Harris Bipod just didn't hold under the recoil of my rifle so I bought one of the bipods that have indentions in the legs, took it apart, made the length shorter and reassembled. It's the swivel type bipod and I installed a quick release handle from KTM on it. The other bipod was reassembled and installed on a little Romanian 22 of mine.

The stock I had on the 10FP before was a Choate Ultimate Sniper. Rock solid but WAY too massive and heavy. I did take a dremel and mill out a shallow slot for a small bubble level. I leveled the rifle and then put the bubble in with silicone. I was having a problem at 600 yards with rifle cant. The level remedied that quickly. I plan to do this stock the same way soon.

The rifle has 3500+ rounds through it. The barrel is nearing the end of it's life. My groups had opened up to about one inch @ 100 yards. Then I tried an A-Max bullet and it shot like a new rifle. 5 rounds into a little over (and sometimes under) a 1/2" is common. I'll replace the barrel soon though.

I highly recommend the over sized bolt handle from Savage too. I called up to order a replacement handle which I was going to cut off and make oversized myself when the lady asked if i wanted the regular bolt handle or the oversized one. I couldn't believe it! They already had one! Makes a big difference.

Other than that, no changes to the rifle. The trigger is original and adjusted down to 3#'s. It's not the accu-trigger either, though I wish it were. They say those won't work on the older 10FP's. Bummer.

I'll include a close-up of the spacer:

And a shot of my old stock with the level. I later took it back off and reinstalled it MUCH neater. I hated all that Silicone gooped out around it. I worked great because I could be lined up and ready to shoot and quickly verify I was level. Gotta make another for this stock soon!

Mesa-
I was planning on getting one of those blackhawk drag bags. Does it work really well as a shooting mat?
Nice setup!
-Nic

G35, it's a McMillan stock (A3?). It's std on the 10FPLE2B.

The paint is Valspar and Krylon: dark green, black, taupe ,er, I mean tan and a rust red primer. Since I did use primer, I sprayed the whole thing with a matte Krylon clearcoat.

Nic, I got one of the cheap ($100) Blackhawk mats and it's plenty good for all I'm gonna need (mostly a range mat). Of course, I'd like to have one of the sexy hi-speed ones but at $250-300 it just doesn't make sense.

Thanks!

Yes, it works resonably well for a shooting mat. A bit narrow but I'm a big guy. I usually take one of the U.S. Mil. Parachuter's Weapons Cases (available at http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=89071 for only $10) and lay that down, then lay the drag bag on top of that. I waterproofed the canvas side of the U.S. Mil. Parachuter's Weapons Case. The inside is a heavy felt/wool type stuff. I have 3 of them. I just bust out the stitches that make it fold and it makes a perfectly sized indestructable shooting mat. On one I left the felt like it is. Very warm in the winter.

I have the olive B&C stock with black webbing on my 12FV, and now I'm considering paint on the barrel and scope to match.

Did anyone bed their B&C's?

I'm just curious...just bedded the scope mount and lapped the rings, and I haven't had a chance to start breaking the stick in...

thanks

Nice! :) Note to self: add Savage 10FP LE in .308 to list of wants. Mesa, where do you find such a level for a rifle, and how important is it? It that made for a rifle, or McGyvered?

Futo Inu-that's a McGyver special for sure. I bought an el-cheapo $1.99 torpeado level and removed one of the level bubbles from it.

I shoot at a range that has steel from 100-600 yards. I could shoot like a demon out to 500 yards but for some reason I was having trouble at 600. The rangemaster started spotting for me (watching the vapor trail) and said I was right on with my elevation but I was missing by a foot on the right every time. He started watching my position, et. and pointed out that it looked like my rifle was canted. He has a leveling board at 400 yards so without repositioning I checked. The rifle wasn't close to level. Something about the lay of the land between 500 and 600 yards made getting the rifle level difficult. The 600 yard targets are down in a hole near a creek bed while the 500 yard targets are up on a hill and to the left.

I took the Basic Snipers course at Badlands and shot to 1000 yards with pretty much no problem. But all the targets are pretty much straight out and EVERYTHING in that area of Oklahoma is flat. I figure if a little rifle cant will throw me off 12" at 600 yards, it would be much more at 1000, (if I could find somewhere in Georgia to shoot that far). So, the level eliminates that error. That way, if I miss, it's me and nothing else.

love my FP10!! :)
