As far as I know, they're not legal in this state. Does this sound like a set up? Should I email the seller in question and inform him what he's doing isn't legal? Should I let it go and ignore it? I'm curious what you guys would do.

Don't get yourself involved, it is probably some sort of sting operation.
Illinois takes a dimmer view of supressors than they do full auto and an even dimmer view of short barrelled anything!

It sounds like they have enough rope to hang themselves if they're advertising SOUND supressors, not flash supressors in a public forum.

A friend of mine had a quote from the movie "The Flim-flam Many" that is somewhat appropiate for this and quite a few other situations "You can't cheat an honest man." I'd stay away from it.

I decided to just let this one go. It's definitely for a sound suppressor. For everyone who asked, here's the ad with the contact info scratched out:

I wouldn't contact the seller. It could be a crook trying to sell illegal materials, or it could be the cops trying to wrangle in people who would buy illegal materials.

I like to idea of forwarding the ad to the cops, and let them handle it. But if it were me, I'd mind my own business.

Reminds me of an ad in the Miami Herald some years ago that caught my eye.... the ad was for "auto sears" for AR type rifles... This, of course was back during the era when there were a fair number of illegal full auto weapons down here in paradise. Any way you slice it sounded like trouble for anyone involved.
