Scope Mount for AR-15?

Forget the riser and just get high rings.
It's one less thing & two clamp bolts to go wrong.
Regardless of the scope size, you will need high rings to get a proper cheek weld on the stock.

You don't need to - or want to - get over the front sight post. You won't see it through a magnified scope. The need for the "high" rings is to give you a good cheek weld on the stock. The straight action of the AR means your cheek is higher relative to the bore axis than most traditional hunting rifles.

To do so would require a ridiculously high scope mount.
You won't be able to even see the front sight through a scope anyway.
It will just be a ghost image a very low power & completely disappear at higher power.
It all has to do with the minimum focal length of the scope.
The scope can't see or focus on things that close.
In other words, don't even try to look over it, because you can look right through it with a scope mounted at the correct height for a proper cheek weld.

+1 on the larue qd mount
+1 on the cheek weld comments. you'll want the center of the scope to be pretty much the same height as the top of the front sight post
+1 on the high ring comments, unless you go with the larue. keep in mind, you need to have room for the objective bell AND the box the turrets are in, to clear the AR's flat top rail.
but also, it's hard to grab the charging handle if the front of the scope is close to it. making it a bit higher gives you room to get your fat fingers in there. and that goes double if your scope has a knob that you twist around to change magnification and it keeps bumping into stuff

The Millet DMS-1 is the 1x4, right? If so and if you go with a LaRue mount, you need the SPR-E, not the standard SPR. You'll want the extra length. I have the Burris XTR 1-4 and it's specs are very similar to the DMS.
With the scope set at 1x, the front sight will be easily visible but not in focus. It is not really problematic but I found it quite distracting. At 4x the front sight disappears.
You can replace the standard FSB with a low profile gas block with a folding front sight, or a Yankee Hill unit that is an integrating gas block and folding front sight (I really like mine).

Yeah, the Millet DMS-1 is 1X4, I'd rather not spend $200 for a scope mount, If I was going to put $400 into optics I'd rather just get a better scope, I'd much prefer to just put $40 into scope mounts and $220 into a scope and be done with it. Thanks for the clarification in this thread, I'm new to rifle scopes.

I use Leupold Rifleman see-thru Weaver mounts for optics on my flat-top ARs, and they've given me excellent service. They put the optic at the correct height, are mildly cantelivered and can accomodate a sizable range of optics, and they are strong enough for field use on my hunting rifles (and they *have* seen some tumbles). They also cost a princely $17/set at WallyWorld.

Replacing the gas block is far easier than you may think, there's good instructions at ar15.com. Post up here again if you decide to go that route.

I got a Millett DMS-1 and bought the 30mm LaRue SPR mount.
LaRue is the best, and no matter how good your scope is, it's only as good as the mount.
