I realized I’ll never have the time to get out and shoot as often as I want to. So I made the time and went out twice in the last couple weeks, and finally enjoyed shooting my new Tikka in 308.
While this inevitably rekindled my “need” for a heavier barrel 308 to punch paper with, I also realized I’d like better glass. I have a 3-9x40 Leupold VX1 on the rifle currently. This glass is fine for all the hunting I’ll ever do with the Tikka, but I’d still like something better...
What sort of options are out there for “mid range” glass designed for hunters (read: a 2-3 power for the low end that’s adjustable up to just 9 or so), but still has really reliable tracking, and quality turrets with strong, tactile clicks preferably with zero stop? I’d strongly prefer an offering from Vortex or Leupold if possible.
My Leupold VX1 may or may not have reliable tracking (haven’t tested it yet), but even if it does, the adjustment knobs have borderline obnoxiously mushy clicks. I don’t have any complaints about the clarity of the glass itself. It’s a $200 scope, after all. Even still, the clarity is, to my eye, quite fine. Still, it would be nice to move into an appreciably noticeable upgrade.
The VX1 I currently have will take up residence atop the new Tikka T1x.
