It behooves one to do a little vetting before doing business with an online vendor.

These reported issues with Optics Planet, and the terrible BBB numbers at the link surprise me a bit. Only a few years ago that they were one of the sponsors on some of the boards (RFC, for one, IIRC), and I routinely saw good reviews for them. I've probably bought 4 or 5 scopes from them over the years, along with other stuff, and have never once had an issue. It's probably been 3 or 4 years since I've bought from them, though.

Never knew they were so bad. Never had a problem with them. Buyer beware I guess. Had an awful time with Cameraland a few years ago. Paid and they never shipped. Took a while to get a refund.

I guess it's possible that CL messes up every now and then. Rest assured that's not the way they operate. That's reflected in the fact that they have no BBB complaints on file. Frankly, that's miraculous.

i sent them an email and told them i was gonna share my experience on all the forums. they replied a day later and said it was a mix up and they are refunding the entire price. it should be 5-7 days before my card is credited.

hopefully it clears. i probably wont shop there again tho

Optics Planet was okay for the most part prior to the start of the plandemic, but they went down hill since then. The same thing happened to other online retailers too.

I buy most of my optics from places like Midway, Brownells, and Primary Arms.

I have heard good things about Camera Land and Euro Optics though I have not felt with either.

I have bought several scopes from Euro Optic and they are GTG. Their Sales & Closeouts have been pretty good - https://www.eurooptic.com/used-specials-gear.aspx

+1 for Brownells, MidwayUSA and Primary Arms and other online vendors - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...dations-under-200.912293/page-2#post-12457516

My purchases from Optics Planet in recent years have been promptly shipped within several days properly packed without damage. BTW, Optics Planet offers 5% THR discount with THRFORUM code on $50+ orders.

LA Police Gear shipped my Vortex Crossfire II 6-24x50 fast and well packed - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...ipping-with-cyd-discount-code-exp-2-8.901484/

Dack Outdoors shipped my Burris FF E1 6.5-20x50 in 5 weeks but slow shipping was well disclosed on their website and they had the lowest price of $169 off gundeals at the time so I didn't mind waiting. Scope arrived well packed and undamaged - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...20x-50mm-169-9-shipping.893341/#post-12061424

Viridian Serac 6-24x50 (30mm tube) was bought directly from Amazon Viridian store along with their scope rings and received them within a few days well packed and without damage - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...-focus-sfp-long-range-reticle-for-150.900740/

I am glad to hear that you have had a good experience recently with Optics Planet.

The issue most have been having with Optics Planet since 2020 is the fact that their website will sho things in stock but then will be out of stock as soon as you order. Or it might take 3-9 months for you to even get what you ordered. Unfortunately, they are not the only vender with these issues

I'd hazard to guess that most of their orders go through without issue.

My rule of thumb regarding OP is:

If they're the ONLY place that advertises something in stock that no one else has, OP probably dosen't either.

If it's something super common that can be had elsewhere, it's probably cheaper there too. So I'll just buy it from there.

If they did have something cheaper, and commonly available I might roll the dice. Probably only if the difference is significant though.

my father in laws scope is shot. just falling to pieces. its an old simmons. i want to gift him a new one. my budget is $200

what would you guys recommend for a savage 110 chambered in 270? and what scope rings? height and brand

where he hunts a long shot is 300 yards and i doubt he would take a shot that far unless it was at a hog.
