I'm looking at one of these as a cheap gun to take up shooting clays with until the price of 223 and 9x19 come back down to...reasonable levels. I found a Sears 300 for pretty cheap locally, and I understand that the Sears 300 was internally a Winchester 1400, so all the spare bits like the extractor, gas rings, ect will work.

I have a question about the stock though. At some point I'd like to put a speedfeed on it, but the S300 and W1400 have different cuts on the back of the receiver. Is the buttstock screw angle the same, IE, would I just have to cut the angled part off a W1300 stock to make it fit on the S300 receiver? Are there any other pattern buttstocks that would fit, or could reasonably be made to fit onto the Sears receiver?

Thanks for the time.

I have seen stated in this forum that someone does make an adaptor so a 1400 stock will fit a 300. I don't remember who. Perhaps a search of the archives will reveal this info, if a quick answer isn't forthcoming.

if someone makes an adapter then the angle of the recoil spring/stock screw is the same. And a Speedfeed stock is just plastic. On the other hand, what's are the odds that a 100/1187/930 stock would fit? Is the angle of the receiver pretty much the same for all repeating shotguns?

Wenig might be able to help. An Inletted stock for a 1400 might be able to made fit the S&W. Their New American version is nice.
