I got their letter today, asking for a donation. I don't like to give money out without knowing how that money is going to be spent, especially in this day and age. Do they do good things with their money? Or if I send them some, will I just get put on some list where I get sent all these other donations requests?

I say they're a good group, but since I'm a member I'm a bit biased. Their main deal is fighting to protect the 2nd through litigation. Check out http://www.saf.org/ for some of their current/recent legal activities. They're the litigation wing of the eagle, and Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA, http://www.ccrkba.org/ ) is the lobbying wing. Join both if you can!

SAF

and other organizations rent mailing lists of likely sympathetic individuals from a variety of sources, mostly conservative magazines.

As for what SAF has done for gun owners, in addition to its publications such as Gun Week, Women & Guns and the Gottlieb-Tartaro Report, SAF has initiated or participated in several lawsuits in support of gun owners.

The suit against the city of New Orleans was initiated by SAF with the NRA joining in. SAF and the NRA are suing San Francisco over their recent handgun ban; SAF was the only participant in the lawsuit that overturned the Feinstein handgun ban in SF in 1982. SAF funded the Ohio lawsuit over open carry that eventually forced the legislature to pass that state's concealed carry law.

For more info about SAF, visit http://www.saf.org

SAF is a top-notch organization. Right now, if I could only fund one organization, it would probably be SAF. They do mostly pro-Second Amendment litigation and they do very sharp, smart litigation at that. SAF also isn't afraid to team up with larger groups like the NRA and let them stand in the limelight in order to advance the Second Amendment - even when SAF did a lot of the ground work.

If you want to support a group who is out there creating positive Second Amendment case law on a consistent basis, this is THE group to support.

As ChestyP noted, SAF owns Gun Week, where I hang my hat most of the day.

Might I suggest you also sign up for a subscription? The Internet is good for getting people's attention FAST and FIRST, but GW labors to get it RIGHT.

But that's just me talking.

I am an NRA member, but SAF is number 1 on my list for pro-RKBA donations. They do excellent legal work, fighting our battles in the courts rather than just in the legislatures.

And all contributions to SAF are tax deductable!
