Senior citizen's defence

I believe a CCW is the only way to go for us seniors (I'll be 67 next month). Not only am I a senior, I'm small (5'6") I've never been physically very gifted, and I've had a couple of operations in the past year--fisticuffs is out of the question for me. And don't believe that karate, tae kwon do, or any of that stuff is going to make us older folks the equal of a big, strong 25-year-old. After all, he may know martial arts, too.
It's probably not a bad idea to have a cane, a knife, pepper spray, or something like that, but a big, strong, young guy hopped up on Lord knows what might be immune to all of those things. Also, he might take them away from you and use them on you.

Nope, we seniors need something that keeps a bigger, stronger person from getting too close to us--and that's a firearm. Of course, there's no guarantee that we can draw our CCW before the bad guy gets too close, but there's no guarantee we can get out our knife or pepper spray or raise our cane before he does, either.

So, yes, get yourself in good physical shape. I lift weights and do aerobics three times a week and try to watch my diet. But I'm under no illusion that being in good shape at 67 is going to prevent some young hoodlum from beating me to death.

I feel for those of you who can't, for whatever reason, move to a state that allows CCW. But for those of you who can, do it. You'll make new friends and you'll find new things to do. In fact the changes and challenges inolved in moving to such a place might improve your outlook on life.

And if you did, God forbid, have to shoot a goblin to keep him from hurting you and yours, you would probably get a much more sympatetic jury.

North America?

When I had moved to Canada, from Australia, had been there for a couple of years, 1971? I had cause to take a Bus, to pick up a car.

No seats, so I stood, no big deal, I was 36 years of age.

Sitting next to my left side, on the senior seat (The side running ones, seat 4) was a young guy 16? when an old Lady got on, old! he just looked at her with a grin, I said give the Lady your seat, he said "I paid my fare" not yet being North American ized! mind your own business? I hauled him out of his seat by his jacket! Sat the old Lady down! Everybody on the bus, including the driver, found very interesting things to look at, but not at us!

He said you can't do that, I asked him if I can not, how come he is standing up! That felt good, at 72 I would still do the same thing, no chance to try it on though, do not go on buses. On second thoughts though, probably not!
