Setting the record straight Australian Gun Laws

I'm confussed.
I have a copy of the June 1st 1997 Sun Herald (Sydney) with the forced gun 'turn-in' notice. (www.gun.law.gov.au) I have copys of all the 1997 news casts from NSWs concerning the gun confiscations, including the coverage of NSW Police selling confiscated guns to drug gangs. I have crime stats showing a huge upsurge in violent crime after the forced 'Turn In'.
So what is this Bloody Aussie's point?

The last time I looked the nation of Australia was a representative democracy. That means the politicians are freely elected by the people and pretty well do what the people want them to. So that means that if enough people in Australia wanted to change the guns laws then that is what would happen. Perhaps someone there should start a movement to do so.

Usually threads that are this old get locked due to the fact that it's not always apparent that the original participants may no longer be members here.

In this case, since Appsy bumped the thread, I'd say its safe to assume he's still an active member.

I'd be curious to know if the Australian gun laws have changed much in the intervening time span.
