I picked up my English Setter at 8 weeks... had no idea what I was going to name him. 10seconds into the car he is chewing on a can of Skoal. That's now his name. Don't worry, the dog will choose its own name.

ANNIE short for Anschutz or Aguila which translates to eagle and finally just plain ole Norma.

You could name him after a certain make and model of gun.
Call him "1911", 'Leven for short.

We are getting a puppy next month. We have been mulling over a name as well. We were watching 'Lock & Load' the other day and I suggested "Gunny". We settled on "R. Lee" (pronounced Arlee) as a compromise.

I hope the Gunny doesn't come to my house & kick my a**. I also hope the dog doesn't order me around.

Too bad you already decided on a name... for a chocolate lab you couldn't do any better than "Bess." That is totally what I would name a female brown dog if I got one.

If your next dog is a black lab, you can name her Betty (Black Betty being the predecessor to the Brown Bess musket).

Screw it, just name the dog "M-14." I think I may name my first kid that. ;)

I can't believe it went to 126.
I use to have a rat terrier called rimfire. Small and deadly, kill any thing if done correctly.
And a chocolate lab called Hershey's

just name it 357 and have done with it.

I named my Bull Mastiff "Rambo", and he has lived up to the name. He was affectionately called "the Rambino" when he was a pup.

I like Rider/Ryder. as in Red Rider BB guns. Come on, what man over 30 doesn't love his old Red Rider BB Gun? Great name for a dog says me.

I saw "Reload" a couple of times and like that......"Rio" for short.
"Shortround" but don't have a short name. You kind of have to fit the name to the dog....a lot of good names though. gene

JM, or Jim, may be my next dog's name. I like it. Now I just need to get a new dog.

I am referring to the Browning reference above.

My English Springer was named Bouquet (bow quet) Trapper Joe. The Bouquet is a river near my house and has had a lot of trappers since the 1600's. called him Joe for short.
I called him "my" dog,but he was really my youngest sons buddy, every school day joe'd go sit at the end of the drive way at 2:30 and look down the road til the bus came with his master.

Saw a pup the other day named Ljutic.

My grandfather's bird dog was named Nigsy.

(to clarify - no racial overtones on Grandpa's dog, it was a tan spaniel named by my 2 year old uncle at the time, apparently an approximating of 'pig')
