I want a short barrel (20-22") vent rib bead sighted shotgun barrel for my Remington 1100. It would be handling high brass #6 for squirrel and magnum 2 3/4" turkey loads. What are my options? I know there is a short rifle sighted barrel with rem-chokes available and it would be PERFECT for turkey season but rifle sights don't work in the squirrel woods with my style of run and gun ( I tried:banghead:). It seems simple, cut down an existing barrel, but then I do understand how there may be a problem with the gas ports and ejection/feeding problems. What to do?

I just looked over the three 1100's I have here. The vent ribs on them could be cut at about 20.5" in front of an existing block beaneath the rib. I am never really a fan of cutting a barrel. I always feel I might want to return it to original condition. You could send it to "Kirby The Gun Smith" or your local gun smith to let him cut your barrel, install another bead, and rethread it for your Remchokes. This cut would be several inches after the gas ports. A good gun smith would probably know how much or be willing to open the gas ports after some testing to adjust for the difference in cycling if needed.

Mr. "Kirby The Gun Smith" is here on the forum.
