IF you were going to use a pump gun 12ga. mod. choke 20in bbl. what shot size would you use on dove?

#8, but I would REALLY want a barrel about 28 inches or longer for better swing dynamics - short barrels are fast to start swinging, and even faster and easier to stop when you don't want to

#7 1/2 or #8.

Doves are easy to kill, but you have to hit them first.

#6 shot patterns can start getting kinda thin for little doves at longer ranges.

I'm a #7 1/2 guy just because it works and is easy to find, but #8 will certainly work about just as well. I've heard said that #7 1/2 is the better choice later in the season when they're flying higher, but I've never attributed any misses or cripples to shot size as opposed to me just missing. ;)

Be sure to pattern your gun, my 870 patterns better with 8s. +1 on the longer barrel, my 870 Special Field has a 21" tube, very fast, but the swinging characteristics are poor. A 26 or even a 28" barrel will IMHO get you more birds.
