Should I buy a Glock 26?

Hi all,

I am thinking on a Glock 26 again as a CCW and another spare gun. How do they compare to a Kahr K9 (one of my other guns)? Thanks for the info!

Well I like mine.

Shoots great out to 25yds which is beyond what most guns like this are designed for.

Has never jammed.

Plus it also has the ability to take the 17 round mags if need be.

And, unless they dropped it Advantage Arms makes a nifty .22lr conversion kit for it. :)

I'll pick the G26. ' has the best finish out of the box, and very reliable to too!
I use to own one and still kicking myself for selling it. :banghead:

When I finally started thinking about buying a Glock I anticipated that my only use for one was going to be as an occasional off-duty weapon. For me, that meant something reasonably medium-to-small. I have to carry either a full-size or a compact pistol at work every day, and I prefer to carry something a bit smaller on my own time. I've spent many years carrying full-size guns, both semiauto pistols and revolvers ... and I still do, sometimes ... but I've also accumulated a number of smaller framed guns that work well with my preferred carry methods and body size.

However, I also wanted to minimize any potential loss of accuracy, effectiveness and controllability, as well. A finely crafted balance, as it were ...

Of all of the Glocks I've handled and shot over the years the only ones that really appealed to me ... for small off-duty weapons ... were the G26 or G27.

Between those two I preferred the G26.

I bought G26 and haven't regretted it.

I also bought a barely used G27 after I picked up the G26. I hadn't planned on it, and only did so because the price was simply too good to pass up. I've actually fired more rounds through my G27 than I have my G26, but only by a few hundred rounds, and only because I've been spending more time working with the G27. It's increased recoil impulse makes me work just a bit harder to control it, and the only way to do this is to practice with it.

If I only were going to keep one of them?

It would be the G26, hands down. Everything I can do with the G27 I can do faster and more smoothly with the G26.

I can't compare the G26 to a K9, because I don't own any Kahrs. Just a personal foible.

Comparing the G26 to my CS9, 3913 & SW99C 9mm, however, the G26 is very close in overall size and practical carrying weight to my CS9 & SW99C. Accuracy & functional reliability is similar ... which is to say good.

Some of the more obvious differences between the G26 and K9 include weight, grip frame design/angle/dimensions and trigger design ... so you really ought to compare them yourself by shooting the G26.

Definitely shoot it first before you buy it because it's such a small gun that you may find that you won't like it. If you do buy it, Pearce mag extensions are a must or you'll be gripping the gun without the pinky.

Though I have small hands, I couldn't get used to the grip, even with the mag extensions on there so I sold mine last fall.

I had a Glock 27, basicly a Glock 26 in 40S&W. I shot a buudies 26 the other day makes me wish that I had bought the 26 instead of the 27. Recoil is stout with the 27 but not too bad at all with the 9mm.

+1 on the Pearce grips I tried to shoot without them when I first got the gun and hated it. Once I put those on the gun fit as it should. I could hit alot better with it as well.

I love the 26. I tried the 27 first then the 33 all were difficult to fire rapidly and they were tiring. Also they were not reliable for me when firing with my weak hand. The 26 has been great. I even used it to place first in a local lawenforcement 3 gun match.

It will even take the 33 round magazine :neener:

Buying the grip extention doesn't make sense. If you find the 26 to small, buy a 19.
I wouldn't buy the 27 either. The 9mm Glocks are the ones that work and hold best.

+1. I love my 26, and shoot it extremely well. The short grip doesn't bother me at all, and I have fairly large hands. I just slide the pinky underneath the grip, much as you do with Colt Single Action Army revolver. The grip extensions don't really add anything in terms of accuracy, and make the gun larger and harder to conceal.

I have also shot the 27 (my brother and father have them) and don't like it. I like powerful handguns, but I don't like them this small and light. The 27 is too much of a handful for me to shoot quickly and accurately. With the 26, I can can double tap and transition to multiple threats very quickly. The 27 slows me down a lot.

My primary carry piece is a commander size 1911. With the Glock 26, I am almost as fast and accurate as the 1911, with a much smaller (in height and length, anyway) and lighter gun.

Adding a pinky extension to a G26 mag still leaves you with a barrel, slide, and grip shorter than a G19's. BTW, the G26 is accurate a lot farther out than 25 yds. :) Even if you use a G19 mag with A&G sleeve, you still have a G19-length grip, but a shorter barrel and slide.

Make sure you at least handle the Kahr. They are excellent. Not saying either is better. The action is similar (striker fired, same trigger pull every time-no SA/DA) but the Kahr is single stack (fewer rounds on board if hi-cap is a consideration for you) and the trigger is more like an extremely smooth DA revolver pull vs Glock's pull is shorter/closer to SA auto. Also, the steel Kahr is not much heavier than plastic Glock, I believe the polymer Kahr is lighter than the Glock. Very accurate and controllable recoil. Again, both are great, try both before you buy.

What do you want from the Glock that the Kahr doesn't already provide?

For comparison purposes, here are some side-by-side shots Oleg took of the G26 and P9 (If it is inappropriate for me to post these I will take them down).

I've owned both. I owned the Kahr K9 (blued) first and got a nickeled K9 for my (now ex) wife. We each liked them and was impressed with how they fit our hands and shot - we used them for years. Then I got into Glocks and became a Glock armorer. Once I learned how the Glock pistols are made and how easy they are to disassemble for cleaning and/or repair well, I just "bonded" more with them.....plus the fact that we could shoot the G26's just as easy if not more so than the K9s - plus the "wife" could disassemble the G26 for cleaning herself...something she couldn't do with the Kahr due to the recoil spring weight and how the slide stop had to be removed/replaced. I've shot the G26 over all of my training courses of fire with expert results....it is an amazing little pistol. BUT.....this is me, if you already own the Kahr K9 (and it is as reliable as the ones I had) then you will be well served with what you have. You can't go wrong with either one - it's just YOUR preference. As a matter of fact, I still have two new magazines for those Kahrs that I need to sell if you know of anyone looking for some extras.

I can't stand the Kahrs trigger. Its smooth but I don't like long trigger daos with a long reset. If you like revolvers then you will like the Kahrs trigger. The reliability on the Kahrs is also a lot more suspect. I see alot more complaints on Kahrs reliability than I do Glocks.

"Should I buy a G26?"

Yes, if you're looking for an easily concealable, extremely reliable, and accurate firearm. I like mine so much that I just bought a second G26.

Thanks for the replies. Here's 2 pics of the Kahr. The nickel finish is worn in spots & someone also messed up the slide trying to adjust the front site. I guess I'd like to get something that has more capacity and is new. It's more of a want than a need since I haven't had a problem with the K9. Anyone want a used K9? :D

Your last post reminds me of one of my favorite attributes of the G26, it takes hi-cap mags. I frequently shoot my G26 with 17 round G17 mags without any problems. I've also used a 33 round G18 mag again without any reliability problems.

The Glock 26 is my favorite handgun (and I've tried a lot of them). It's a wee little beastie that shoots like a big gun.

Buy the Glock 26, you will like it.

I was so impressed by my first 26 I bought a second one to keep stashed for a rainy day.
