Should I buy another 45?

The hi point .45 carbine is supposed to be good and they are a few hundred dollars. if you are looking for a pistol caliber carbine there isn’t much wrong with that choice.

What, just one?

Seriously, try b4 you buy. Find a range that rents, and pay their price. Certainly you should try a government model.

My Blackhawk 45 "convertible" shoots more 45acp than anything. If you like SA revolvers, it's a great choice.

I have a 45 Pitbull. I don't see it as any improvement on my 44 special version, other than cost and availability of ammo.

My 45acp 1911 is great. I can't use tiny sights anymore, so I got one with decent-sized sights.

I like my S&W M&P a lot, too. It was a LE turn-in that I got for cheap. It's a very nice shooter.

The CZ's are good, too. I have a polymer one, and a steel one that needs a trigger job (and will be getting one soon). Mine are both Tanfoglio "clones".

Those are my favorites. If I could only have one it might be the Blackhawk. If I could only have two, it would definitely be the Blackhawk and the 1911.

Yes, absolutely....what was the question?
I had the Bersa UC45, and it was a good gun, but I traded that for a Llama 45, that was not a good gun, but it did introduce me to the 1911(ish) pattern. I then bought a real deal 1911 and love it. That being said, and as much as I am a fan of the gun that descended from heaven with our lord and savior JMB, there are other models that handle the 45 auto cartridge quite well. Ruger SR 45 comes to mind. The cartridge itself is fantastic. It's heavy, its fat, it's slow and does a lot of damage....kinda like me:oops: The recoil impulse is just different than higher pressure rounds, more of a shove than a slap. I find it very comfortable to shoot and a joy to reload

One more thing I had never really considered. Folks talk about 9mm having so much more capacity than 45, but 18 rounds of 115gn 9mm and 9 rounds of 230gn 45auto are throwing the exact same amount of lead downrange, but the 45 does it in half the time:D

If you have a indoor range that has a reasonable price rental fee I would shoot every 45 acp they have. Narrow down to the ones you like first. This is a great way to help in making your decision!!!

Not too long ago I bought my first 45 acp. I had wanted one for many years..actually decades, but had never justified it. I wanted only a Colt. The original. I have owned handguns....many, both revolver single and double action, and semi autos and shot extensively, but have never enjoyed shooting one more than this one. Soooo, yes. Get a .45. A Colt! Everything else is a wannabe.

Kentucky Gun Co currently has the Tisas (Turkish) full size, GI style 1911 for $350. I have a similar Tisas from an older importation, it's a good gun. If nothing else, just the sheer bargain nature of this says "buy me".

Through my range time with my 45ACP Bersa I probably shot up upwards of 3000 rounds before going to the 9x19, however the change had everything to do with the Bersa and nothing to do with the 45ACP cartridge. The Bersa has an abbreviated beaver-tail and frequently would bite the web of my hand on recoil. By the end of most range sessions I'd have a little trickle of blood there, unpleasant but semi-tolerable since I WAS having oodles of fun, after all...

Anyhoo, these days the Bersa just doesnt make it out of the safe. I'm thinking of selling or trading up anytime. And I have like 400 rounds of 45ACP gathering dust as well. I have nothing against the round at all, but now I'm faced with either selling the ammo if I sell the gun...or keeping it to use with something new! And that's the thesis of my post. I'm curious what people's thoughts are regarding this. I'm not interested in a 45vs9mm showdown. With good ammo 45 has a slight edge but you get less capacity. I wont debate it beyond that generality. One of the reasons I like 45ACP is its so much easier to load magazines and fumble with loose rounds in the dark or under pressure.

So I am considering another 45 in some form, just because I do kind of like them and I happen to have a good start on a stash of ammo. But then again, if I sell the Bersa I could grab a new CZ or Browning Hi-Power. :)

In 45 I'm thinking of a Beretta, an M&P, maybe even a 1911, maybe a Camp Carbine, a Ruger PC carbine, a Charter Arms Pitbull...and others still.

Well... I'm re-re-reading your post, you are asking about buying a .45? Then you debate another 9mm. The BHP, by the way, will nip the web of your hand, too, like your Bersa. Then you talk about a PC carbine? It sounds like you just want something new, and I don't have a problem with that. I don't know the statistics, but I'll bet a box of ammo most of the .45's sold out there are 1911's, so that would be the majority of the suggestions, unless you just want a poly double-stacker. It really sounds like you need a new .45 AND a new 9mm... scratch both itches.

Also consider the m&p 45c, you can conceal easily as a g19, will take full size mags, and they make an x-grip adapter. The replaceable backstraps make it easy to fit your hand. Ergonomics are great. Soft shooting. And I have 1911's. Best M&P if you ask me.

My first and only 45ACP was/is a Bersa Thunder Ultra Carry. It was actually my first handgun which I carried concealed for about 2 years before switching to various 9x19's and even 9x18's. These days I switch back and forth between a Shield with a belt clip in summer and a Makarov in winter, and occasionally carry a 357Mag when hiking. By generally switching to smaller guns and calibers for EDC I have found it easier to stay armed nearly ALL the time and keep much more ammo at hand.

Thanks! Regarding what guns I'm considering that is one of them. I've read some Beretta PX4 vs. M&P 45 threads and they seemed largely inconclusive for me. on the same day that I bought my shield I handled a px9. I have to say that I really kind of liked it.

I'm still kind of I'm still kind of hoping for some reflection on if I should keep my 45 ammo and buy a 45 instead of just selling it all and reinvesting the proceeds into 357s and 9s.... or put a little more into my rifle inventory?

Selling used ammo is hit or miss. Right now is probably a great time to sell in terms of getting maximum money - you might find a panic buyer who will overpay. In other times you almost can’t give it away because people aren’t sure of provenance/safety.

In your shoes I’d see three viable choices: sell or trade the ammo for something you want more, buy a very different type of .45 (e.g. your carbine idea) to experience something different while using the (possibly hard to get right now) ammo you already have, or just hold on to it in case somewhere down the road you come across a deal (either a gun in .45, or someone who really wants your ammo).

The only one that can answer your question is you. For the life of me I can not figure out why folks need confirmation/validation or direction from social media on whether or not they need or want another firearm. Ask your best friend, your wife, or your hunting buddies, they probably know you well enough to give some direction. But random folks on the internet? It's basically gonna be "get what I have, get what I have!" because those folks too need some form of validation for their choices. Sheesh......:scrutiny:

I really enjoy shooting the 45 ACP. Unfortunately, self loaders and I do not get along well. Since I prefer revolvers I have found that revolvers chambered in 45 ACP are what works best, for me.

What works best for you, revolver or self loader?

Kevin

I haven’t read one response in the thread, but based on the title I’ll say YES!

(What can I say, I’m an enabler ;))

Stay safe.

I'd consider either a FNX-45, with it's beefy 15 round mag, or an old Ruger P90, if you have a smaller grip.

IME, they're both a little heavy, but both point and shoot great.

I would probably sell the 45 ammo and buy a lightly used HK VP9 or VP9sk.

You get a new gun and you don't have to keep feeding a different caliber.

.45 ACP: America's auto-pistol caliber. Aren't you an American?

In America, I shoot America's pistol (the 1911) with America's cartridge caliber.

So, yes.
