I love my sig 226 , but its not fun to carry so that leads me to the question of what is the next gun to get. I like sigs, but due to price and weight, I am thinking about a Glock 19 for carry.

Is there anyone out there that Has a glock and sig 226? Could you take a pic of both pistols next to each other? I would really appricate it.

I am just trying to get a feel for the size of a glock 19, compared to my sig 226.thanks

I have a Glock 23 (same size) and a P226. The compact Glock DEFINITELY wins in the carry department. It is noticeably lighter than the Sig, and thinner also.

If I was in your situation, I would not hesitate to switch over to the Glock 19. But get used to the Glock first if you haven't. Familiarize yourself with it, they shoot differently than the full-size Sigs.

i own and carry both, but haven't got pictures to post.

when i carried my 9mm sig 226 as a duty gun, i would carry my glock 19 for off duty. the reduction in weight and size made a hugh difference in concealability. i can CCW a sig 220 but the 226 is just a bit too wide in the handle for me.

i tweaked the trigger on the g-19 for more "feel" before letoff and added hogue slip-on grips (the palmswell makes it feel just right)...its nice having the same number of rounds in a smaller package.

The G19 is probably the perfect carry gun. I've got a 3rd gen w/nite sites. I had a G23 and it was a fine carry option, but it was the only .40 I owned. I'm trying to limit hand gun calibers to .22, .45. and 9mm. So thats the only reason I sold the 23. I would prefer a 2nd gen 19, but they're tough to find around here. I've got a 3rd gen HS2000 (exact same gun as Springfield XD9) and the grip is 3/4" longer than the G19 So the G19 is easir to conceal. I've also had a 226 and currently own a 220 both of which are too big to conceal in my opinion.

Another thing is total weight. My G19, 16 rounds of JHP, and light holster hits right at 32 ounces.

If you have a a postal scale, weight you Sig, bullets, and scabbard.

Not all Sigs have great corrosion finishes, so that may be a factor in which Glock is also the clear winner.

I prefer the Glock 26 for carry. Don't be put off by the grip, you have to shoot it to believe how well it shoots. I shoot it better than my 19, plus it's a lot easier to conceal with the short grip.

Also, some 19s have problems feeding hollow points due to some feed ramp geometry issues. Mine shoots fine, but won't hand-cycle hollow points without one jamming on the base of the feed ramp. The 26 has no such problems.

The 26 has no light rail, but then again, do you really want to muzzle sweep someone before you know who it is?

I love the 19 in theory, but in practice the 26 is where it's at, IMHO.

I've always admired Sig's from a respectful distance, but now after sateing my 1911 fix, I find myself shopping for one. I've worked pretty extensively with the 220, 226, and 228, and I'm pretty sure the 226 is one of the best 9mm's I've ever shot (no, I haven't tried a BHP yet, I'll get there soon :) )

Another reason I darent trod on Sig ground is the price. Being a 1911 fan, I'm almost always broke! Between reloading the big .45 cases and stockpiling accessories money is tight. There simply hasn't been room in my pocketbook for another high-priced gun. Then I one day I was watching one of my favorite movies when I caught a quick look at a black plastic pistol in a safe deposit box that seemed appealing. The weapon was a Sig Pro, and my curiosity was peaked. Remembering that I had handled the .40 version way back, I remembered that it fit my hand similar to the 228, was concealable, and hadf the much desired Sig trigger pull. Ever since I've kept my eyes out for information regarding these guns, and every now and then I'm rewarded.

The Sig P2340 may in fact be what I/you are looking for. It transitions between 9mm (Bar sto aftermarket barrel), 40, and .357sig seemingly with the change of a barrel. This makes it easier on my wallet as 9mm is cheap right now , and I'm willing to shell out for a expensive aftermarket accessory if it means total caliber versitlity. It appears to break down easy, and the example I saw maintains the Sig feel and quality. I have yet to shoot one, so I don't have firsthand info, it's just something I'm keeping in mind as an alternative to Glock

I've got SIGs and like them alot. But in a 15 shot 9mm, I really believe the G19 is the best gun on the market.

In 40 or 45 I kept the SIGs but in 9mm the the Glock is the way to go.

In 9mms the Glocks are hard t beat. Reliable, simple, affordable. You can do some "gunsmithing" yourself. Parts are abundant and cheap.

Have a P226-40 with a Barsto 9mm conversion barrel on the way. Will pair with MecGar 17+1 round mags to create my Sig Wonder Nine. Will report once the set up is complete.

Look at the 228. There are Mec Gar 15 rd wags for the 228 that run perfectly.

I'd carry the Mec Gars if I carried my 228.

As someone else said the Glock 26 is also a great little 9mm. The 12 rd mags that are avaliable now don't add much size to it.

The Glock is noticeably smaller

I just compared my Sig P226 to my Glock 19 (sorry, no picture). The P226 is noticeably larger, with a longer slide, longer grip and wider grip. The P226 also seems to weigh several ounces more than the Glock.

Although I like the P226 for shooting at the range, I never considered it a very good concealed carry gun because of its size. The Glock 19, on the other hand, is an excellent carry gun and is easily concealed.

I have considered the exact same scenario. I currently have a P226 but am looking for a lighter gun thus a G19 is under consideration. Another option might be the USPc in 9mm. Do any of you know how the G19 and USPc match up in size and weight against each other. How about grip size---I have large hands(thus P226) and I doubt ANY subcompact will fit and many compacts may not either. Thanks.

mayo,

My of my old roomates had a usp compact in 45, I shot it a few times, I did like it a lot for a small gun in 45. Recoil was not bad at all for a small polymer framed gun, but the two things I didnt like was.

1.The Mag release is extremely awkward, and I didnt like it at all, try it out and I think you find the same thing. It will make you appricate your sig.

2. I thought it was way over priced for a polymer framed gun, although HK is a fine weapon, just my opinion.

Have you had a chance to hold and/or shoot the G19? If so, how does it compare in the grip size vs USPc? The smallest "compact" or subcompact that I found to fit me besides the P226 was the P228---get's frustrating trying to find a compact that's light for someone with large hands. Since I use smartcarry the P226 is just too large or heavy especially in Fla. and I'm looking for options. Your thread hit close for 1 of my choices(G19).

I have shot a 19 and liked it - I could almost (Note - almost) be converted!!! I am tho well happy with 226 - it is heavy - way heavier than Glock but - I have this liking for weight, plus I favor the D/A - S/A element.

In the end - as ever - it's down to what feels, carries and - shoots best - for the individual. Glock sure is less costly - for most part.

Mayo,

I have not had a chance yet to shoot the 19, but a good friend of mine who was marine CQB and now is a law enforcement carries it for duty and really likes it, which is surprising since he loves sigs. He too has issues with guns with small grips and he said that he didnt like anything in glock smaller than the 19, so I have ruled out the 26/27.

I like the 19 for price, weight and its reliable. I am looking forward to shooting a 19 in the near future.

Pm me or post back when if you get to shoot or handle one.

Check out the HK and see if you agree with me.

when i'm not working in uniform, i'll strap a 228 unto my belt because iot is much more comfortable, and lighter. tham the 226 i'm issued. the 228 isn't really that much smaller but sure seems to pack easier...and still has 15 rounds when using mec-gar mags.

the g-19 would be more comfortable to carry, but departmental regs won't let me carry it on duty.

g19.. none does it better for concealed carry.

no need to extol its virtues..just try one on for size and whilst you are at it give it a wring out at the range.. ;)
