I bought my first Sig GSR (post manhole cover) back when they were 100% MIMless and easily the best deal in a production 1911. Then Sig introduced the Nightmare series.... Then they brought out the Nightmare Carry
So I've long wanted one but only ever saw one in real life- at a gun store in Tacoma. $1050 plus tax (so ~$1,153 out the door) was just too steep, even though I'd decided to put the GSR up for sale to fund it.
On a whim I stopped by the McChord BX after work today to see what they had rusting in the case. I'm seriously NO fan of AAFES and I can get Sigs through their IOP cheaper than the BX sells them, but the Nightmare Carry isn't in the IOP catalog.
Wait.....what's that....labeled as a Nightmare but looks like a Nightmare Carry......
Wow, the price is reasonable, and there's no sales tax.....
"Can I see the Nightmare please?"
Counter girl pulls the gun out and it fits my hand like my hand was the hand model they used to design the grip. Then she says, "Oh, there's 5% off if you use your Star Card, today only" (AAFES credit card for you non GIs).
So..... $992.75? Hmmmmm..... Noodled it for a few minutes and said, "Wrap it up, I'll take it." (and yes, I know you can get one for $115.63, with 500 rounds of ammo and a thigh rub from your special dealer- but I can't)
Wow this thing is built nice. The slide to frame fit is spectacular. The front strap checkering is a work of art. Night sights! The trigger is absolutely the best out-of-the-box trigger I've ever known. Even the box it came in is a step up from the usual single-wall plastic type.
OK, the magazines will live in the box from here on out; they look terrible. I have plenty of Wilsons and some flush-fitting GI style magazines I prefer anyway.
I hope to get it out this weekend to do some run-in for carry. I'll try to get some better pictures than the one above-- sorry, the light is bad in here.
