I own lots of handguns and out of all the autos the P239 is the sweetest shooting. Possibly out of all the handguns, period. The 9mm seems perfect for it and it is very, very accurate. The ergonomics work well for me. It points well.

It's so nice I'm actually a little bit sorry I gave it to the GF even though it's just on the other side of the master bedroom.

Magazine capacity is limited. I have no experience shooting it in .357 or .40.

I'd check gunbroker / gunsamerica for used prices.

I advised my brother to buy one a few weeks ago, and the first time out shooting it I was able to get a 9 round group of about 3 inches at 25 yards. It has to be one of, if not THE best shooting small 9mm. And on top of that, they are super sexy.
If the gun you are looking at is in Excellent condition, I would offer him $450 since a factory refurb can be had for $480.

Got 239?

It is my favorite ccw. 229 comes in close as does 220. Put some 3m non skid tape on the front of the grip, nite sights, and you are good to go.

Mine are .357 Sig just because it is more fun to shoot than 40.;)

I just picked one up on a trade, and its a great little shooter! My CPO is still under the 1 year warranty, and Sig is sending out the correct sights, it shoots 3" low at 25 feet:eek: But into a ragged hole:) I tended to ride the slide lock, so the slide wouldn't lock back everytime, until I relized what I was doing. I would highly recommend one.

i have had my 239 9mm for about 9 years and it is probably the best gun that i own and carry the most

I've had a 239 in .40 for about 10 years. I can't recall a single malfunction, ever. And it isn't picky about ammo--its shot everything I've tried well. One of the best buys I ever made.

Ditto,ditto,ditto.
I REALLY like my P239.
It's fast and accurate. I bought 10 rd extended mags, so I could shoot
USPSA. I'd rather is was a DA only, but I'm getting over it.

When I want a caliber bigger than 9mm but easier to carry than a SIG P220, I reach for my 239 in either 40 or 357SIG.
Accurate, easy to shoot, slim grip.

Owned one since 1996.
It's my daily CCW.
9mm with night sights.
One of the most accurate guns I own.
Slim and easily concealable.
Slightly smaller than a G19 and slimmer due to single stack mag. I would say about the size of a Bersa .380 or a teeny bit bigger.
I would trust my life to my P239 and do.
Literally thousands of uncounted rounds through the pipe with never a hiccup.
3" groups at 30 feet, wearing heavy winter gloves, in a snowstorm.

Qualified thumbs up

I had one, a 9mm DA/SA. It was 100% reliable, never even a hint of a malfunction, and accurate in SA slow fire. I disliked its very long DA trigger pull (my "major malfunction" with SIG pistols in general) that didn't release until the trigger nearly hit the frame. Coupled with its small grip and short (thin) trigger, my first DA shot was often wide of the mark, when I could get off a shot at all. I could just not get it to work for me.

It is improbable that the above would apply to you, however. By all means get it if you like it.

Aren't they almost as big as a G19 though?

Not even close.

The Sig is soooo much slimmer, especially with the basic factory grip. Truly a pistol that was designed for concealment, not a block with the nose and grip chopped off.

I forgot to include this earlier--put some rubber Hogue grips on it. They made mine a lot easier to handle.

And make sure it doesn't have the short trigger, which is a boon on the double stacks but not so much on the slim P239.

Without seeing a picture of it, its hard to put an exact value on it.
Depending on condition, finish, box/papers, and how many mags, I'd say its worth anywhere between $350 to $450.

I have three P239s - a P239 SAS 9mm, P239 9mm DA/SA, and a P239 TT .40S&W/.357sig DA/SA.

I only carry the SAS because of the DAK (double action only) trigger. It is my main summer time CCW because of how slim the single stack mag makes the gun. (It's sitting with me in my Sig Tac coat as I post this.)

They are all excellent shooters. Some people find them to be heavy and lacking in capacity (8 + 1 - 9mm, 7 + 1 - .40/.357sig), but for me it's the smallest gun that I can shoot really well.
That being said, out of all of my Sigs, they are the ones that I like the least because I have big hands.

As far a reliability goes, its a Sig and its built like a tank. If you take care of it, it'll last you a lifetime.

Since it is a friend selling it, take it to the range and make sure its a good fit for you before you buy it.
Good luck! ;)

Thanks for the speedy feedback, forgot to mention this is a 9mm very clean w/3 mags, original case and papers.
It was city issued and when she retired she was allowed to keep all 3 city issued sidearms (Sig, S&W .38 and S&W .357) Nice retirement gift Huh???
Her words were "Find out whats it's worth and make me an offer" ,"it's been fired but never at anyone"
I just want to pay what the gun is worth and I have a good idea now...

I think a fair price for the condition that you describe would be about $450 to $475.
Unfortunately or fortunately - depending on if you are buying or selling, the CPO's (Certified Pre-Owned) have driven the price of used Sigs down.
You can get a CPO for anywhere between $500 - $575.
The one problem with some of the CPO Sigs is the finish. There have been alot of people over on the Sig Forum that have purchased CPOs and have had the finish flake off.
I'd rather buy a used Sig and replace the springs myself. You can get a Sig parts kit that comes with all of the springs that the factory replaces when they refurbish a used Sig. You can get them from Sig or Top Gun Supply for about $26.00 plus shipping.
