I was in the SIG Sauer Pro Shop Saturday and they are now selling the brand new P225. I'll have to stop in tomorrow and get a picture of it if they still have one. It's not the same P225 as the last one. It uses a modified P239 magazine and according to the salesman it also has a slightly wider frame which to me sounds like they may create a .40S&W and .357 SIG version. It's priced at $1,050 MSRP according to the salesman which I think we'll see it for around $800. I have a feeling that this gun will take away from P239 sales which is what replaced the P225 in the first place.

I plan on picking one up eventually. :)

It is not the P225 it is a frankengun. You are better off getting a used P6 or P225. This new gun is a P225 in name only.

Yes, definitely a P225 in name only. Would probably seem more at home with current P226, P228, and P229 owners than it would with those who liked the original P6/P225 design.

Years ago, I had the chance to buy an excellent P225. All was o.k., but the thin metal lip on the magazine dug into my hand uncomfortably. If they have cured the problem, I'd consider another.

My hands may be funny, tho. I do like compact pistols, but am forever getting "bit", attempting to insert magazines in Glock 19 and Ruger SR 9Cs.

It uses a plastic magazine base so I'm sure it would be uncomfortable for you. :)

I see this gun as a mini cooper. Sure it's not as small as the original but it's still a great car to drive.

Yeah, that always seems to be the problem. Way too often companies will try to make what people want like a screw for screw, angle for angle remake of the original. Then some genius decides that they want to "improve" it or "make it up to date" and that's when you end up with these bastardized contraptions that we didn't want in the first place. Another case in point, the P228. It would be great if they made it again but now they make the M11-A1 that is made differently than the original M11/P228. Really, a guy is just better off going out and buying a used pistol that is what they want and let these "new and improved" versions rot on the shelves.

I don't think it looks bad at all. I think if they stuck with the original trigger guard, it would be perfect. At least it looks better than the P239 ;)

I have a REAL 225. A West German 225. This new "225" is an insult.

I think it's a nice gun, certainly not at insult.

But I have a P6, with the 225 mainspring. So this niche is filled.

As soon as I wear out my P6, I'll be in line for one of these. :D

I have this one and I think I will stick with it.... LOL If I didn't and wanted one I would buy the P6 at the local shop for $400 and change out the hammer and the mainspring!

Meh, it's a pistol from Sig. A single-stack, not so compact, 9mm. Whoopee.

I own a P6, among other Sigs. They are not "sexy", or anything even remotely wonderful. They work as they should, and are examples of Teutonic styles and operation.

Of all of the Germanic pistols, I think that the old HK VP70 falls more under the lines of "sexy".

Sheesh, what's next, gushing on the old S&W Model 39?

You hating on my pic? LOL I think Sigs look great although sexy might not be the term I would use. :what:

I'll definitely want to handle one. My primary carry is a 239 and while I am mostly happy with it, I've never been fond of the rounded trigger guard and limited holster options. The 225-A1's profile is better suited to existing holsters. The 225-A1 is slightly longer than the 239 which might translate into a problem for me as I carry OWB and have no interest in carrying IWB. I'll approach it with an open mind and go from there.

As for sexy, I don't care about sexy in a defensive pistol, I want function. This is a self defense tool, period.

I looked at one last week. I ALMOST bought it - the grip feels so nice. But, the shop wanted $890. I considered selling my M11A1 to pay for it. But, the gun is more or less the same size, and I go down from 15 rounds to 8. I decided it wasn't worth it in the end, even though the grip of the 225 feels better
