Hey all, who has purchased through silencer shop.com? They advertise 90 days, many many happy customers. Today my eform 4 was officially submitted and my local dealer called for pertinent info. During the call she mentioned its about 5 months on wait time currently. is the near double advertised time a bait and switch? Or are ATF fluctuations quite normal? Ive read a few testimonies. One guy had one suppressor he was almost 2 months into wait time while ordering another one. He actually received the one he ordered later first. My take away is its really at the hands of whatever ATF paper pusher's desk your paperwork gets dropped on...

I bought through Silencercentral last October and was told to expect six months wait time. Nine months later, I am still waiting.

The 90 days is the ATF goal with eforms. The silencer shop website shows 158 days average. The THR NFA forum has threads on wait times.

Not through the silencershop, but did an Form 4 e-file in February and received approval at the beginning of this month.

My paper Form 4s, submitted in November of last year, are still pending.

Thousands. Many of who have posted in THR's NFA subforum.

Not exactly. They are careful not to promise 90 day approvals because Silencer Shop isn't the one doing the approval, ATF is.
ATF has never promised 90 day approvals, but casually mentioned they "are committed to their goal of ninety day approvals"......goals are not promises.

Its not bait and switch because no one promised you a ninety day approval.

Mother of God that sucks...Quick look they seem to be about the same type outfit without tossing the 90 days around as much.

This proves the point its really about who's desk it lands on and/or what papers they randomly decide to deal with given that day...

Whoever told you to expect six months last October should be ignored in the future.
ATF has not had six months processing times for paper Form 4's in over a decade.

I am not sure if they filed a paper application or online but would not understand why anyone in the business would be filing a paper application. Anyway, this is the first and only silencer I am buying but I will give SilencerCentral a call in the next days.

Could you please provide the link where you see this happening. I don't see them doing it on their site. Thanks

as indicated it's not tossed around like silencer shop main page and multiple places. but here the website FAQ. This is a more honest answer than Silencer co indicates to newbies but still the unrealistic shorter times are there

Promised no but these websites do indicate a 90 day wait time. To a NFA veteran they know better, to a first timer when they see it advertised its what they think to expect. I'll be happy with 5 months like my local shop said if that actually happens :)

99 out of 100 will forget the "we don't know how much faster it will be" as soon as they read the last six words.

I just talked to Ben, the CSS manager at SilencerCentral. They have 23,000 eForms submitted and represent 25% of all applications. Currently they are expecting my paper application from October 2021 to be processed in about four months, roughly. Since eForms was opened up again, the average time for eForm applications has been 165 days, i.e. the applications from February are now approved. However, some applications come back approved after seven days. ATF is trying to first process the high load of pending paper applications but have told the CSS manager that they expect the approval time to be 45 days eventually.

Tom,
the answer from SilencerCentral was very detailed and the manager had all data available, that will not be ignored. Your post does not include any facts or details and I think, your posts will be ignored by me in the future.

No one knows how long an October 2021 submission will take....not even ATF.
ATF only calculates the average processing time for approvals. Meaning the forms approved as of June 30th took an average of twelve months. Thats up from eight months in their previous reporting period that ended September 30th.

Since eForms was opened up again, the average time for eForm applications has been 165 days, i.e. the applications from February are now approved.
Nope.....100 days as of June 30th according to ATF. I have no doubt that the next processing update will be 150-180 days. Further, there are thousands of February eForms that are not approved.

ATF stated in December their goal was "90 day approvals". Anyone at ATF thats telling anyone to expect 45 day approvals is one taco shy of a combination plate.
I suspect that Ben is pulling numbers outta his butt, not ATF.

Ive been doing NFA sales and transfers for over a decade. If you have been doing the same you would know I don't fudge facts.
Silencer Central tells me all I need to know about you.;)

sure it makes sense but DONT TYPE IT if its not anywhere near a fact. This reminds me of Democrats excusing themselves for the same behavior the accuse others of... ... ...

To be fair as you stated this spring has been unprecedented time of NFA submissions. It gonna extend wait times period. IMHO these website companies should make fair AND BOLD note of this on the websites. But hey '90 days' sells like hotcakes so I cant bash anyone. I'm 1500 doll hairs into it, I aint backing out now right?

Well in all fairness I would choose to wait my place in line if I had the choice. I hope they approve ANYONE BEFORE me 'before me.'
My main concern is stuff doesn't get weird politically and stuff gets put on some kind of hold or BS...ATF is kinda scrutinized right now by conservatives, especially after that lady using personal cell phone to take pics of gun shops paper records!

These discussions remind me of an anecdotal story about the similar bureaucracy of government approval related to promotions in the military.

I was in the army and had just taken command of my first company, which made me eligible for promotion from first lieutenant to captain. The paperwork had gone to the Pentagon and the average wait time was several months before approvals came through.

It just so happens that my company admin sergeant had trained with a guy who worked in the office where all of the promotion packets landed. As he explained it these packets were all placed in one big vertical stack in a spring loaded filing contraption. As a new packet came in you would hit the top of this thing and it would pop up and the packet would be slid into the bottom and they were reviewed in order, top to bottom.

After telling me this story my admin sgt says, “want me to hook you up sir?” I said “sure!”

So he calls his buddy and ask him to find my promotion packet. He found it at the bottom of this stack and moved it to the top.

As a result my promotion approval came back in one week.

My sergeant ask me not to tell anyone about this so I didn’t. There were more than a few promotable offices in the unit that had been waiting months and were pissed. When they would ask me how that could happen I just shrug my shoulders. ;)
