Took my new Yogu sks out to the range today ans I had a problem. The gun would fire a round but it would not recycle. It became a bolt action rifrle. I had to fire and recycle by hand. A guy at the range said it probably had something to do with the gas tube. He then showed me a black button near the muzzle of the barrel and said I probably needed to change the position of that button.

I know with the collective knowlege on this board that somebody can help me out to diagnois and solve the problem.

Thanks Wild How do I do that and by the way I got to shoot the mini 14 I bought from you for the first time today. It was a lot of fun and the gun functioned perfectly. Had a nine power scope put on it and I was rocking.

I will post a feed back in the transactions sectin later today singing your praises. Walt

If the the black button is sitting at the 12 o'clock position, it's set to use the grenade launcher and will not cycle the bolt. Push down on the button and rotate it to the right until it stops. It should cycle fine then.

Cool, so if you ever want a bolt action SKS you can just change that. I knew that button was for the grenade launcher but never really understood exactly how it worked. I had heard you have to use a special round for the grenades and was afraid to ever try shooting it with it switched because I thought the barrel might blow up or something. :)

All the button does is to close off the gas port to the action, so it won't cycle. Grenades require special ammo - something without a projectile. But I don't know about powder loads for it.

Anyone find any dummy "practice" grenades for the SKS? It might make a good game sort of like bocci ball, trying to get close to a target.

An easy way to remember is that the button also locks the grenade sight in its down position. In order to flip the sight up, you must move the button, right? Easy.

The 'other' reason an SKS won't cycle is if you neglect to reinstall the gas piston after having cleaned the gun. That's a really common mistake.

It would be waaaaaay too cool to get some dummy grenades, and the grenade-launch blanks, then set up a 200-meter "yard darts" kind of game.....

Oh, yeah, found out about the normal vs. grenade launch switch the same way...Thanks to THR members.

Rusty is wondering how many "boots" forgot to use the blanks when launching the grenade! (That's probably all they ever found of them ... the "boots".) :what:
