I now carry a wonderful Ruger P95 in one of my AIWB leather holsters every single day. When I bought my gun new-to-me from my son-in-law to be, I made the mistake of trying it out at the range dry. The slide bound up on the polymer frame rails giving me FTE's, failures to go fully into battery etc. . A re-cleaning and light application of Breakfree CLP to moving parts solved all troubles.
Because of heat, sweat, humidity and such I've been occasionally applying a drop or three of the Breakfree CLP to the slide rails to assure function if ever needed.
I want to try a good gun grease though on this Ruger as well as my stainless CZ75B and some others. As a tiny tot I learned from Daddy to use RIG gun grease. Came in a tiny gray tube and that lasted a long time. What's out there in greases now please I should buy?
As always I thank you. Don.

I use Mobil 1 bearing grease on the slide of all of my semis.
It does not move around or migrate like oils do, and has been very stable even in hot summer heat and very sweaty conditions.

The rest of the moving parts get regular oil, but the slides always get greased.

I've seen some gunsmiths comment grease should be reserved for high round count long guns and avoided for pistols, though I have read the SIG lube recommendations too

Gray Guns SIG lube http://grayguns.com/lubrication-of-sig-sauer-pistol-rails/

If I were using grease, I'd probably give SLIP 2000 EWG or Wilson Ultima Lube II grease a try as I already use the other products in their line-up's and would have confidence in them.

I use Tetra Gun Grease on the rails on my semi-auto. I also use it on the exterior front of the barrel that rubs against the bushing. Unlike oil I don't have to worrying about it running off in storage like oil does.

I have started using Mobil One synthetic motor oil on pivot pins such as on the trigger and hammer. I use a small squeeze bottle with a long small spout so I can put a drop of oil exactly where it is needed

I've been using Slip2000 lubes for a few years now, with great success. I use their EWG (Extreme Weapons Grease) in places where I want grease. It's extremely slippery stuff and seems to stay where you put it. I use their oil in my bores and on bolts after cleaning, and I have found that cleaning the next time is far easier. Good stuff in my opinion and I have no affiliation with the company. http://www.slip2000.com/ .

I personally like Lubriplate :)

I use either Tetra Gun Grease, or Slip 2k EWG on my bolt action rifles and semi-auto pistols. I've been quite happy with both.

Sorry, but that was not RIG grease.
RIG came in a yellow tube.
And it is for rust protection, not lubrication.

What you remember is Outer's GunSlick graphite grease.
A little grey tube of it came in every Outers gun cleaning kit.

About the slickest thing I have found is Wilson Combat Ultimate Lube.

It is thicker then oil, thinner then grease.
But slicker then snot on a glass doorknob!!

I like it, a lot!!

Did you mean the oil, or one of the other products such as Universal or the grease?

I use the Wilson Ultima Lube II Universal, which is a little thicker than most oils, but their grease is liquid also and probably a little thicker than the Universal.

Cheap Walmart high temperature bearing grease. I think people tend to overthink their gun lubricants. ;)

I've also been using Honda Moly 60 grease on the cam pins of my ARs. I had it for lubing the drive shaft gears on the rear of my 1984 Honda Goldwing and figured I'd give it a shot.

Lubricated is proper amounts is more important that which lube you use.
A gun is not much different as far as parts wear to the millions of machines that get oiled and greased in factories across the world every single day.

Everybody has a favorite lube and it is very much like fishing lures, they all tout amazing performance but in the end the only thing they accomplish well is separating gun owners from their money.

I suspect that if you bought a quart of good synthetic motor oil and a tub of bearing grease, as long as you cleaned your gun semi regularly that you would never be able to tell the difference in performance or wear between a tiny little tube and bottle of gun specific lubricant and that big giant tub of red Mobil 1

Been using Slip EWG on my CZ And Sig pistols for the last few years ; it has worked great and Has given me no reason to look for a different product.

IMHO I would not use grease on your rails. My XD45 went 4K rounds with no FTF or FTE. I applied a highly touted (and expensive) grease to the rails. I got short stroking and feed issues immediately. 2-3 FTF per 50 round box. After a good cleaning and some RemOil on the rails over 3K rounds with zero malfunctions.

From the pic I could tell it was either that or you were trying your best to use up that entire can as quickly as possible. :D

That's a LOT of grease for just one pistol. You could strip off all the grease on the slide rails & grooves and reapply from JUST what was left on the wooden stick and you'd still have more than enough.

If you run a gun dry you are most likely going to have problems. I've run my P95 and other polymer frame guns with Breakfree for years. Never had a problem.

I have the last tiny tube of Gunslick black grease on the planet. Use it on rails of my pistols (Glocks and Walthers) and I smear a little around the inside of the slide where it slides against the barrel. Then I spritz over top it with a half-second spritz of Rem-Oil. Cycle the slide, wipe up the smutz and I'm good.

Ya the grease went everywhere once I fired it. I pulled the trigger the grease splattered on my hand.

Ran like a champ, but that's probably because it was a Glock.

I've done that with GP bearing grease too.

When I pulled the trigger the grease splattered on my hands
