I went to my local gunshop today completely intending on buying another mosin nagant and so I had 160 bucks in the wallet. I walked around and also looked for a holster for the recent Rossi 38 I bought and couldn't find one. So I moseyed over to the used counter and looked down and saw a Springfield XD in looking completely unused for 300 bucks! I immediately put my hand over the glass and stood there with a look saying "if you look at this gun I will bite you!" It took several minutes for the owner to come over as he was particularly busy today and I said, "I will take that one!" I put it in layaway till I after Christmas. It comes with 3 mags and the box. That is a good deal no?

Possibly, it really depends on the exact model to some extent and the condition of the gun. Did you get to inspect it at all?

Unless it's been really abused, that's a good deal. I'd have done the same even though I have no need for another XD.

These are the "god ole' days" as far as buying guns right now. It is truly a buyer's market. Enjoy.

As already asked, do you get to inspect and shoot it?
I didn't get to shoot it but I did inspect it. The gun looks brand new, once I get it off layaway I will post pics. Most affordable XD I can usually find in this area is around 425

Buy it. End of story. Worst case buy it and sell it at a profit. Or use it as trading material. That is what I do when things like that appear in front of me like magic.

I would buy that immediately ( in that condition) , even though I don't need another XD...
Good find ! mike

$300 is what the XD sold for when it was known as the HS2000, and then Springfield took over the distribution rights, renamed it the XD, and doubled the price.

That's an excellent price if the gun shoots properly.

I just had this exact conversation on another forum. Not exactly double, more like $150. Springfield also changed the finish to the much more durable "melonite" finish and warranties the gun for life. I'd call that an improvement.

What caliber?

If 9mm or .45acp its an excellent deal. I've found .40S&W guns to sell for a little less, but would still be a good/very good price even then.

Another "yes" vote here, that's a way-good price, if it's in excellent condition. I've seen a couple recently on my local Armslist at $400 that have been grabbing my attention, and one at $350 that got snatched up in an hour or so.

You can get them on grabagun for around $400 or a bit less new. I'm local and can just go to their store front and pick up so no shipping. If you are not in north Texas you would have to factor transfer fees and shipping costs.

I am assuming a garden variety XD in 9mm?

Looking at Bud's, new Springfield XDs range from $430 to $600. So yes, you got a good deal.

What caliber?
9mm Its the plane XD model. I have been looking around lately at the local market and normal price is around 400 +tax used. This is the first XD I have ever owned and quite frankly I think they are some of the ugliest guns on the market, right behind Walther PPX's. But I figured I could at least give it a shot.

That's something I didn't know. Another reason to call the Springfield XD Glock perfection! GLock has stopped using melonite finishing.

Well I went and got the pistol out of layaway and... I don't like it. Thing is too heavy for carry and I really don't like the trigger. It is now for sale on armslist.

If you didn't get the subcompact version, I don't blame you for thinking it's too heavy for carry. That being said, the triggers aren't to sweet when dry-firing, but will surprise you at the range. They're very accurate guns.
