I am still using my trusty 30-30 win, 94 angle eject with scope and raised mounts to use my iron sights if needed. I have had this rifle for 27 years as my dad gave me this rifle brand new then for xmas. :neener: and told me it would do all I ever need for the rest of my life, and here in Oklahoma it has and still is serving me well, so anyone gonna be using this excellent old classic cartridge this year?? :D

Yup. Mine was made in that time frame from 1944-47 when there was a fire at the factory, so the records are incomplete, and they can't exactly date the rifle.

Our hunting season is already over. Didn't get anything.

I like my 94 in 44 Magnum, too. Maybe better.

If I go hunting deer this season I will be carrying my old Marlin mod,30AS its the same as the 336,but plane jane I have a 4x fixed power scope on it wth the shoot thru rings on it nothing fancy, but the deer wont care if they are killed with a Marlin,or a Weatherby . And the meat wont taste any bettet if you shoot em with a gun that cost 3 times as much

Yup. See .30-30 in my sig line.

As long as I live, this rifle will be with me.

And now, I've found 125 gr rnds for all year.

I keep a Marlin 336 Texan for all-around use. There are those on the high road who consider us fools for using such old tools, but a fool I happily am. I also have a Glenfield Texan Carbine that is a bit handier. I have owned bolt-action Stevens 30-30 and liked it, but liked the Marlin better.

Silly boys, this is 2015. You simply MUST use a .300 Win Mag to hunt deer with, nothing less will do! I read it on The Internet, so it must be fact, you know.....

I have a Marlin in 30-30 made in 1971, that I bought over the summer. As soon as I get the Skinner sight set dialed in, it will be in the lineup for me this year.

Yep. My Marlin 336's are my primary hunting rifles. One is the one my dad bought me for Christmas in 1961 (manufactured in 1958...pre-micro-groove and pre-hooded sights), and the other is one I bought back when I heard rumors of Remington buying Marlin. It is a 336C 30/30 and I use it all the time for deer, hogs, and coyotes. I love lever guns.

I'll take the Win 94 out for some open sight fun sometime this season. For nostalgic reasons. I used to hunt with it, exclusively. Never let me down.

I own two ARs, but my heart and soul belongs to lever guns.

The wife will be when we hunt woods instead of fields this year. Marlin 336 made in 1974. I will be using the same gun in 35 Remington when I'm hunting the woods.

No way.

Magpul doesn't make any accessories for the 30-30.

You can shoot them all day, and they just keep running.

And remember that guy with the 30-30 from the first season of Homeland?
He got pwned by that guy in the woods with the sniper rifle.

Hmmm. Maybe that's why I love .30-30s so much.

I will be using one at some point this year. I don't own one, but there are a few in the family. I've never killed a deer with a .30-30 and plan to change that this season. It's un-American that I haven't.

I love this post.

Love that you've hunted with the same rifle for 27 years.

Guess I'll be a Swedish cowboy. I don't have a Winchester 94 but do have a Swedish 94 Mauser with 17 1/2" barrel. These old girls shouldn't be loaded to high pressure so the velocity is close to the same, bullet diameter is smaller. Wish I had a Winchester to go with it.

My 336 will definitely take a few trips to the stand with me this year just like every year. There has never been a better "feeling" rifle for me.

My go-to is a 1918 Swedish Mauser. Why do I keep buying all these plastic guns when a 100 year old gun and a 60 year old gun are my two favorite deer rifles?

Think I got a M94 in 1972, I hunted a few years ith it. In 76 mom bought me a Rem M700 in 30-06 and the rest is history. That old 94 is in the back of one of my safes somewhere. :)

A little humor. I'm reading this thread as I eat lunch. As I was reading down, I read this sentence: "The wife will be when we hunt woods instead of fields this year." Then took a bite of my burrito, and when I turned back to my monitor to continue reading, I accidentally skipped down to the second paragraph of the next post and read, "She gets shot quite a bit with reduced cast loads, and takes a walk or two every Fall...". :what:

Took me a few seconds to sort it out. :D

I posted last night (see above), but I'll add a couple of details today.

Mine is a Marlin 336A, purchased just before the Remlin fiasco -- it's a good one. In the first few months of ownership, I took it down to minute parts and honed and polished it. Made it smooth as butter. That process is described in some detail in the Marlin 336 Club thread (sig line .30-30).

Once I get to Florida (leaving this week; plan to stay through spring before going back home), I plan to spend a lot of range time. Can't wait. I'm also gonna get a chance to hunt hogs -- hunters who are friends of a friend are going to guide us -- and I hope to hunt deer this year there. (Not sure how easy it'll be for an out-of-stater to get a tag this late, but the season extends into January IIRC.)

If finances allow (looks promising right now), I'm going to put a Leupold VX Hog (not the R) on it. I've always avoided scoping it, although I've thought about a scout scope (even bought the XS scout scope mount, which I may sell), but never got to it; read that they don't work well for cross-eye dominant people like me. It wears XS ghost rings that I put on because I don't shoot anything -- really even targets -- beyond 100 yds, and most shooting is close. When I hunt, it'll be in dense woods (Maine and Florida).

I do OK with the GR's (though my shooting time since putting them on falls in the category "pathetic"; just too busy professionally -- but that's gonna change this year). But as I get older, I'm finding I need optics. Hence the hog.

And, I've decided to go ahead and do what I've thought of for years: get 'er cut and crowned. I've always been a fan of short barrels, since I don't take long shots (I'll leave those for the marksmen), and navigating dense woods is sooo much easier. Not sure if I'll go all the way down to 16.5", or just to 17.5 -- which I think will keep mag count higher by one.

Finally, this thread is lacking w/o pictures. Here are my two current rifles. I sold a Marlin 39A recently. The 336 was first, and I loved it so much I wanted a .22 in lever. But didn't work for me (why is another story) so I let it go.

But the 336 will not leave my side until my death; and I'm going to make sure it goes to a good person after that.
