So I'm forced to choose just one...what would you do?

So you’ve got to look at your entire gun collection and choose just one, for concealed carry, home defense, etc. Which would you choose? I was faced with this situation little while back and have had only 1 gun in my possession for the past 2 weeks or so. You see, we had a house guest who has a history of drug abuse and is trying to get clean. My wife is reaching out to this guy, who is related to her coincidentally, however knowing the history and tendencies of guys addicted to this particular substance, we decided it would be best to remove anything that can be readily sold to buy drugs or used as a weapon in a criminal enterprise etc.

So there I was, I could only have whatever I could keep on my person, so all long guns were out. Now we had it narrowed to the following list:

1.) Sig 229 in .40S&W…..nice, use one as a duty weapon left at work…but heavy for all day carry every day.
2.) Sig 228 in 9mm. I have 2 of these beauties but only 10 round Sig mags and a few 13 round Pro Mags, which I don’t trust in a defensive weapon. So this one is out.
3.) Sig 225. Not that many rounds in the well, but flat reliable, dead accurate, light in weight and narrow. This was my pick.

So here I find myself with a 9 or 10 shot pistol in a 9mm caliber chosen for reliability, accuracy and ease of carry. So I guess I’ve made a discovery about myself because of this situation….and that is if I am to carry a gun all day in all kinds of situations those three reasons are paramount in my considerations. What about you? If you could only choose one, which would it be and why? Remember you have to carry it on you 24/7.

What you said

3.) Sig 225. Not that many rounds in the well, but flat reliable, dead accurate, light in weight and narrow. This was my pick.

That is a good choice, as long as you can shoot it well a single stack nine is ok.

I could see having to go with something smaller as an only gun, and sometimes you just have to make do with what you can realistically carry.

It is easier than explaining to folks why you have an AR and a dozen magazines in your chest harness... ;)

I've had a similar situation for one week, and I went with my KelTec P-32.

My biggest concern was how was I gonna handle the inevitable "Wow, Man...can I see your guns?"

The dude was more savvy than I expected, cuz he never even acted like he noticed the gun safe.

I think I would have went with a P-229 in .40! Yea it's thicker than the 9mm p-225 but it carrys more ammo and has a bigger punch than the 9. Oh, well that's my 2 cents! BTW there all sigs, so there all excellent quality handguns!

That's a tough one. 9mm ammo is better than it used to be and that should weigh in on the decision. I would have to go with the 40 S&W. My carry gun is a Taurus Millenium Special Edition in 40 S&W, super gun but the best thing about it is - it puts a big hole in whatever I point it at.

Mmmm tough call.

Might very well go with the SP101 or Smith Model 60. Potent, easy to carry, easy to maintain.

Either that or the SIG P239 in .40. Probably end up with the SIG. 3 more rounds on board and easy reloads.

put guns in safe, maybe put the safe in a safe, and keep it in your bedroom. sit by it with a shotgun at all times.

if that is not feasiable, DO NOT SELL THE GUNS!!!! PLEASE just give them to a relative for safekeeping....

Interesting scenario. (I originally thought you were getting rid of everything else rather than storing them somewhere safe.) God bless you and your wife for your compassion and generosity.
Given your choices, I would have picked the same. I've narrowed my collection already to .38/.357's and a couple 1911's. I've considered that it makes sense to have at least one 9mm and the 225 would be on my (very) short list of possibilities.

kimber bp tenII, no question. i can stuff about ten tons of lead in it and cary another on my off side. i carried concealed iwb with it for quite a while and while not as comfortable as my g23 it was way more gun also. now i carry g23 iwb and g27 on the ankle. clint smith said "a gun is not supposed to be comfortable, it's supposed to be comforting." if i had to sell all my other guns instead of temporarily store them, this would still be the choice because i would "cheat" with a carbine conversion unit.
My carry gun is a Taurus Millenium Special Edition in 40 S&W
i've heard the milleniums had a lot of part breakages. my friend works the gun counter in a pawn shop and said he's seen quite a few with many different parts broken. i take it this hasn't been an issue for you; have you put a lot of rounds through it?

I'm not a SIG connoisseur, but those three options all seem pretty similar to me. Any of them should work well. I'd choose whatever I could shoot well and carry constantly, and not sweat the details. I'd also not let the lack of magazines enter into the decision - better to buy a few new mags than to be limited by what I don't have on hand currently.

If I were in that situation I'd keep my 1911. I'd also want a long gun locked up somewhere nearby, perhaps in the trunk of my car or at a neighbor's house.

It was smart of you to remove the extra weapons from your house.
