I’ve spent the last few weeks looking at big S & W revolvers on the ‘net, reading all the posts here and at TFL, looking at Auctionarms and Gunbroker, trying to decide which caliber I want. I don’t want a 44 magnum, just out of pure contrariness, but a nice 629 mountain gun might just change my mind. I really like the 625, preferably in the 3 or 4-inch flavors, and the 624 is nice, too. The 610 doesn’t really jump out at me, but the 657 might. I’m looking for a larger bore than .356, so the 627, 27, and 28 are out. I want something a bit more modern than a 1917, although someday… I’m not limiting myself to stainless, although it looks that way from the models I’ve listed. Right now, though, a 45 acp 625 with a 3 inch barrel is leading the pack.

I even went and started digging through all the old gun magazines that I used to subscribe to. Reading an article about the 44 spl., and in walks the wife. Y’all would have been proud of me. When she asked what I was up to, I told her. She just laughed, looked at what I was reading, and said, “I wouldn’t mind a 44 special.†Stainless or Blued? “Doesn’t matter, just make sure it’s pretty!†Uh, barrel length? “4 inch – those long barrels just don’t look right.â€

Now, wait just a goldurned minute, here. This is MY gun we’re talking about! What you have to understand is, her guns are HER guns. I get to reload for them, and I might get to shoot them occasionally, but that’s it.

So now I’m looking for TWO revolvers, his and hers. Oh, well, it’s better than spending it on booze and other women!

Dittos on the Smith .44 Specials. Last winter I lucked into a 4" M24 from the '80s and it is a sweet shooter with 240 gr LSWCs & Unique.

I put a set of Ahrends Coco Bolo's on it. They look fantastic against the deep blue finish. A set of Fitz grips should also go well with this N frame.

Echo...
About a year ago, picked up a 625 4inch Performance Center in .45acp. I love it and shoot IDPA with it. I found is used. It is well balanced, great action job, and a great shooter. I wanted something that would shoot the same rounds as my 1911. However, the 1911 likes 230 grains the revolver likes 185-200's. Their just like kids, all a little different.

Have fun with your search... Enjoy

Oh, the fun is just beginning - I sent my gal the picture of Tamara's Lew Horton 624 with the Ahrend's grips.

"Yep, that's the one I want!"

At least the search has narrowed down some, but I can see this becoming an obsession.

"Lew Horton also had a run of 3" Model 24s, blued, back in the 1980s.

A friend of mine has one of these. VERY very nice guns."

and they look like this (and are SUPER nice)

Get the 625!! I love mine sooooooo much. It's one of my 4 or 5 favorite revolvers. But if ever a cylinder needed chamfering...

I am NOT an addict, I can stop anytime really I can!

I have it so well under control that I didn't even put them all in the picture.

Robert is that a PC627 2 5/8" I see? I'm picking mine up tomorrow!

:D

Phil, that the flamethrower. A forty-one Magnum!

That's eighteen........in one shelf. There are LOTS of shelves. So many that they breed. Have three more coming next week.

I'm Sick!

Mmmmmmmm! Eye Candy!

Now I'm jealous. Went down to one of the local sporting goods stores last night, the only used large frame Smith was a .38/44. Since I was riding herd on a 4 year old (LOOK, daddy, a moose! I gotta go potty!) I didn't even get a chance to look at that.

Nope, gotta have a bore of .41, at least. Must.....Resist....

Seeing all the pictures somehow satisfies, but just makes the need stronger. Like eating a salad when what you really want is the Prime Rib.

Hey guys,

There is a Constitutional Admendment against cruel and unusual punishment you know ;).. So keep the pictures coming & it won't be unusual anymore. I'll wear a bib so the drool doesn't mess up my shirt. :what:

Thanks.......

re-quoting myself from another thread:

One night at the 12-step program:

"Hi...my name is QuarterBore...and I have a problem."

*in unison* "Hi QuarterBore!"

"I...uhm...this is difficult for me...I can't stop collecting Smith & Wesson revolvers... it started with a minty '50s vintage pre-Model 10... then it was J-frames. My friends all told me to get some help, or at least branch out to Colts or Rugers. But it was no use...I was hooked. Model 27s? Three of them... Model 29s *sniff* I HAD to have one of those didn't I? I remember once driving two hours to look at NIB Model 53 in .22/.22 Jet. Then it was an endless parade of .357s...all colors, frames and barrel lengths.

I know now that I need help. Help to find a nice Model 57 in .41 Magnum...with the 8 3/8 inch barrel."

I can stop anytime I want to. Really.
