So I'm reading one of business rags about how Wal-Mart is "bad for America"..

Might be..

One of the reasons (sited in read) said "And some Wal-Mart stores (like in Texas) STILL sell cheap firearms."

So if you weren't aware of how biased most business rags are; selling firearms is listed as a "bad for America" item..

:cuss: :barf:

Which business mags are you reading? In my area, OH/WV, it's actually pretty rare to find a Walmart that doesn't sell firearms (shotguns and rifles).

Obviously for Walmart, the profits from gun sales outweigh the non-politically correct image of being "bad for America." The local ones here also tend to have a nice selection of gun magazines (the kind you read).

It sounds like they can't say handguns or assault weapons so they let one infer "Saturday Night Specials." This is bad to sell in a store open all night long:rolleyes:

I was looking at the guns at Wal Mart last night. A varied selection, but they did not lean toward cheap models. They did have an 870 youth model and a Marlin youth model:eek: What about the chilrun.

I want to say it was Business Week or Business Review; I read 9 in a row, and so I can't recall..

That should say "sited in RED" ..

The Wal-Mart's in the PRK don't seem to sell guns, or is that just a People's Republik of Los Angeles thing?

Cheap guns? Here in ID, our Wal-Mart sells Ruger, Marlin, Remington, Howa --and---Weatherby.

Hardly cheap guns.

Actually Walmart shut down thier firearms program in the PRK becuase they have MANY violations in the past couple years. I want to say something like 200 in the past 2 years. Seems some stores were releasing guns without waiting 10 days and realeasing ot known felons. So they are in the process of re-vamping the whoile deal.

They still sell handguns at Wal-Mart in Alaska. They just have terrible choices - a lot of Ruger nines and stuff like that.

The Wal-Mart opening this spring in a relatively poor urban area in St. Paul, MN, will not sell any guns nor ammo.

Wal-Mart won't sell guns at Midway store
RETAILER ACKNOWLEDGES COMMUNITY CONCERN
BY ROBERT INGRASSIA
Pioneer Press

Bowing to neighborhood concerns, Wal-Mart promised Friday not to sell guns and ammunition at its first St. Paul store, which will open next spring in the Midway area.

It's an unusual move for the giant discount retailer. The St. Paul store will be the only one of more than 35 Wal-Mart stores in Minnesota not to sell firearms.

Nationwide, all but a handful of the nearly 1,500 Wal-Mart stores sell guns. Wal-Mart doesn't sell handguns, except in Alaska. Wal-Mart is the nation's biggest gun seller.

Company officials said the decision to keep guns off the shelves is made on a case-by-case basis. In St. Paul, officials said, they concluded that Wal-Mart wouldn't put itself at a disadvantage because other area retailers don't sell guns.

"It's just the right thing to do for that area and that community," said Carlos Montoya, a Wal-Mart spokesman. "We want to be a part of the community and a good neighbor."

Wal-Mart intends to open in a 125,000-square-foot building at the Midway Marketplace at University Avenue and Pascal Street. The store was left vacant when Kmart closed earlier this year.

Community leaders praised Wal-Mart's decision not to sell firearms.

"The concern was that this is an urban area and it's not appropriate for guns to be sold, particularly hunting rifles," said Travis Snider, president of the Snelling Hamline Community Council.

Three St. Paul City Council members — Jay Benanav, Chris Coleman and Kathy Lantry — joined the neighborhood in urging Wal-Mart to keep guns out of the store. The council members wrote a letter to Wal-Mart in July expressing concerns about firearms sales.

"The Midway is not the place to sell firearms," said Benanav, whose Ward 4 begins two blocks from where Wal-Mart will open.

In response, a Wal-Mart official showed up Thursday night to inform the Snelling Hamline council of its decision during the group's regular board meeting.

Gun sales have become a growing issue for Wal-Mart as it expands from its traditional rural and small-town base into big cities. In 2001, the chain agreed to move its firearms display farther away from the toys department at its Newport, R.I., store. It has since made similar moves in other stores.

Last year, Wal-Mart decided to adopt a more stringent policy on background checks than federal law requires. The store won't complete a gun sale until a buyer clears a national background check, even if the process takes longer than three days. Retailers can legally complete gun sales without such clearance if the check still is pending after three days.

Other major retailers have grappled with gun issues as well.

Many Kmart stores sell hunting rifles and shotguns but not handguns. But the stores off East Maryland Avenue in St. Paul and on West Lake Street in Minneapolis do not sell any firearms. Kmart decided in 2001 to stop selling handgun ammunition, a decision praised by gun-control advocates but derided by gun-rights supporters.

Target does not sell firearms.

Sigh.

I have bought several firearms from my local walmart and have one on layaway as I type this. They stop selling guns and they lose my business, its a simple as that.

Sam's Club stores, (a division of Wal-Mart) usually have a good deal on Winchester Gun Safes and my local one just got some double scoped rifle cases made of aluminum diamond plate with wheels for just over $100. The cases are a one-time-only spewcial buy and I'm getting one before they're gone.

Now if Sam's and Costco would only sell ammo by the case......:D

Well, some "inexpensive" guns, maybe. (If you work in a gun shop in a town that sports a Wally World, it just ain't worth it to stock H&R shotguns, basic Savage 110's or strippo 870's... :uhoh: )

Walmart stopped selling firearms, ammo, and accessories in NJ after someone sold either a firearm or ammo to a criminal and the NJ prosecutors came down hard on Walmart.

I have two of those terrible guns. Love `em.

I didn't say terrible guns, I said terrible "choices". This is Kodiak Alaska and there are strong preferences for certain types of firearms, but these guys are reading from some national corporate script and carrying the wrong guns. Nobody wants a full-sized nine here. They want great big handguns in 454 class, or they want little bitty handguns for concealed carry.

Guess some Wally Worlds have "sense" whereas in Calif. it makes no sense.

The last walmart I went to in the PRK that sold guns, they had a "violation" that was so stupid it wasn't funny..

It seemed like someone bought their gun at 3pm, and picked it up 10 days later, at noon. Well, technically, it hasn't been 10 "full days".. I remember that incident pretty well because I went to ask about why they basically yanked the entire gun shelf out, in about a week; and one of the clerks told me...

Talking about PRK or PRNJ's "gun control"...

It's like a bad joke with no punchline..
