GEORGIA, GO DAWGS!
I am a Wal Mart Store Manager. I would like to clarify fact from fiction. Please ask one question that is FIREARM-related in regards to Wal-Mart, and I will answer you as plainly as I know how to.

I read somewhere that Wal-Mart gave a 10% discount if 1000 rounds were bought at one time. I figured this was too good to be true but was at least worth checking out. I asked my local manager and his response was that he had never heard of it.
Any truth to this discount?
Thanks for your taking the time to answer questions regarding Wal-Mart.

Well, discount or not, you still have the best prices for ammo in my area. I have bought and will continue to buy, a lot of ammo from WM.
Thanks for the response.

Wal Mart associates enjoy 10% off all non-food items. Misuse of this privelage results in immediate termination. Busted boxes of ammo are given to local law enforcement wether it's .22lr, or dove shot.

As to the recent gun reduction, I am baffled. I hear that it's going to be a 66% reduction in the number of stores that sell firearms, but I have worked in rural areas where guns sales have been stoped. I cannot account for this, as my idiocy goes only so far. I do know that the plan is to only sell firearms in 33% of our stores.

Here's a question about Wal-Mart. I live in Utah and the Wal-Mart in my town doesn't sell handguns or handgun accessories, just ammunition, and then hunting rifles. Do you know why that is? I asked a store worker not long ago if it was a Wal-Mart policy, and he said that it was a state of Utah policy because you're required to have a license to sell handguns. I know many other stores in Utah sell handguns, and other than federal laws and allowing cities to make certain ordinances (like no shooting within limits), Utah doesn't seem to have very many special firearm laws. Do you think it's just because they feel they won't make very many sales with handguns? Do some higher ups often think that selling handguns is immoral? What would you say it is?

Why do some of you guys (managers) harass us for OC in walmart, and others don't. I go in one store one day and am fine, a different store and a day later I'm asked to leave. What is the official policy on this?

I can tell you that MANY lawsuits have been filed over the years as to our associates selling guns to people who should not have guns at all. The amount of training that it takes to educate, and I mean REALLY educate even a quarter of our associates is astonishing, and defeats the cause of selling firearms. It's not Wal Mart's fault, its the unwashed Lawyers, and politicians that have forced the quick, and hasty choice of which stores to sell guns in most of our stores. Hell, we used to sell handguns until 1993, and still sell them in Alaska!

Stevereno, will you ever be stocking the Marlin 1894 in .44 Magnum again?
This was back ordered 2 years ago and has never re-appeared in your inventory, TMK.

If anyone has approached you in regards to your legal carrying of a firearm, they were acting alone, and probably trying to dismiss another customer or associate's concerns. We do not ban open-carry, or cc. We do however, investigate our customer's complaints. We have no policy as it pertains to customers carrying guns. If you are asked politely, about the gun, It is because one of your fellow shoppers has complained.

Guy,
ALL retail establishments that sell cartridge-firing firearms in Utah are required to have a license, and that applies to rifles, shotguns, and handguns.
It's the same requirement & the same license.
That store's policy has nothing to do with Utah state licensing requirements in choosing not to sell handguns.

Care to enlighten me on Wal-Mart Policy's etc concerning This Incident (Not me btw)

Dpris, Wal Mart made the decision to stop selling handguns in 1993. The only exception to that rule is for the stores in Alaska. You are correct in stating that a ffl holder can sell, or transfer any gun that said holder wishes, but for the most part we sell long-guns.

Please be reminded that I am not a legal representitive of Wal Mart or any of it's other subsidiaries. I am merely a gunner who is tired of hearing all of the bunk about my company when I know it's not true. I will answer all of your comments honestly, and to the best of my ability.

I would also like to know the exact coporate policy regarding OC/CC if the state laws allow it.

ok ill bite....

how does one get a copy of the walmart firearms catalog? and is every store able to sell them even if they arent on display?

and another one

can someone finally explain why it is that every damn time i shop at walmart, it takes 30-45 minutes to get checked out?

if its because of labor shortages, why not just hire more cashiers, i mean it is apparent that the hiring standards arent very high as 90% of the cashiers either quite obviously do not care that they are employed and at least 70% of them cant even spell cashier, let alone do the job properly...

oh and im talkin about when i go in to buy one or two items...

I'm amazed no one's asked this yet.

Why is it OK for me to CC in Wal-Mart , but if I by a gun I get walked out the door?

Has any one ever actually bought the gun they were going to use to rob Wal - Mart at the store immiediately before robbing the place?

It's just the policy! I bought a shotgun from my store last year, and they walked me out. Just one of those things! As far as the gun catalog, It is a thick, laminated book. It is available at any sporting goods counter in the country. You'd be surprised by what's in there. You can look at it, but you can't take it home with you.

You may notice they walk people out who buy large LCD TVs as well. I don't think it is because they are worried about them watching TV in the store.
