I walk around all the time not carrying, and feel perfectly safe.

But my having that feeling doesn't really mean I actually am safe.

Anyone recall the guy that was caught shoplifting in a wal-mart, police officer showed up, and the guy managed to get the officers gun away from her(?), shoot her, and several other people?
