anyone who takes a grinder and a Dremel to my guns would be considered a hack.
Blame the producer? Okay. Blame the director? Sure.

Well said. You would think that they would at least have the decency to pretend they did some super-duper machinist stuff to it and at least do the Dremel work off camera. I can grind crap with a Dremel in my garage, why the heck would I pay someone else thousands for that? LOL

This show seems to be a hit or miss... Haters gonna hate haha... I'm just happy to watch any show about guns ;-)...

I did find it weird when they received that AK-47 in the mail that wasn't theirs (the one that wanted to get repaired) and when the daughter opened up the package and saw it wasn't theirs, she screamed for her "daddy" like it was a live bomb or something... That was a weird part...

Also, I did find this post by Will in the Saiga forum (the post date was October 5th, 2009):

"I can't imagain it happening , I'd love to be surprised though LOL . What they wanted us to do was basicly , out -OCC the OCC crew . Drama , arguing , big high stress thing LOL . The director they sent was a diabolic little cuss , set up all these "drama" scene's and you gotta do the **** over and over and over , you know , till it's "spontaneous" and "real" , to funny . No , that week or so was a total loss , couldn't get anything done . IF it get's picked up , they'll be able to streamline it . What you'll have is the one "show" build that we'll have to devote 30 minutes a day to pissing and fighting over for them [ throw in a few wrench tossing's and whatever other crap they dream up for us to do ] . While in the background we can just keep on doing what we really do . but that's boring [as he pointed out to me] :)"

There are some things I've disliked about the show but not enough to keep me from watching it. Haven't seen any particularly obnoxious behavior from the daughter, but I haven't seen all the episodes. She's not a Hollywood beauty, but for normal people she's not unattractive. I do wonder how much the show is scripted--I found it a little hard to believe that someone working there couldn't saw the barrel off of a shotgun straight.

As far as Gresham goes, I'm not sure how much of the show he's even seen. Sounded like his opinion was based on hearsay, at least partially. He made some comment about Will pointing the gun at employees and firing off blanks. I may have just not noticed where he was pointing the gun, but didn't Will just shoot off some blanks inside? I didn't think he was pointing it at anyone.

Found this video of that bit of the show and added the link to my original post. From the way it's edited, it looks like Will could have been pointing the gun at the employees(or at least in their direction), but it doesn't show enough to see where he's actually pointing the gun. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPxw6OWGspU&feature=youtube_gdata

I was listening to Tom Gresham's gun talk podcast
Tom Gresham was the main problem with PDTV!

Reminds me too much of Zumbo and his ilk <<

Well, opinions are like noses.

Since I created PDTV, and I got it on the air, and the networks had no shows about concealed carry, personal defense, or much on ARs before PDTV, I'm not sure how me putting black rifles on TV is a "Zumbo" move.

(Head scratching mode.)

As for Sons of Guns, when someone points a gun at someone else and shoots it, even/especially with blanks, I'm gone. I know of at least three people killed with blanks.

Just not a good way to show gun owners in a positive light.

The gun safety rules are constantly broken on that show. Yeah, I know that's what the producers want, but that doesn't mean you have to do it.

Chalk mine up as just one more opinion.

I love THR. :D

This is not the first time that someone noteworthy has responded directly to a post about them. I think it's great that this forum has the kind of exposure to elicit this type of response from involved parties.

TechBrute: Despite the new signup date next to my name (when I re-registered), I've been on THR for about as long as it's been here. I don't post much, but I frequently lurk.

Cool Tom Gresham!...

Ive called the show once, since then moved from CA to TX and Loving my freedom :) I enjoy your stuff... Keep up the good AND SAFE work!

JOe

I've listened to a lot of Tom Gresham's radio show(although I haven't seen PDTV.) I don't see how he could remind someone of Zumbo. Gresham is about as pure of a 2nd Amendment supporter as I've ever heard in the media.

I consider firing even blanks indoors at unsuspecting victims to be a practical joke as classified by Woodrow Wilson Smith (Lazarus Long):

"A practical joker deserves applause for his wit according to its quality. Bastinado is about right. For exceptional wit one might grant keelhauling. But staking out on an anthill should be reserved for the very wittiest."

So, anthill or keelhauling for good old Will?

You know, insurance wise for ANY tv production it would shock me if that wasn't (the blank shooting scene) completely staged.

Plenty of blame to go around ;)

I still enjoy the show, but yeah that was a 'don't do that' moment.

as for content...it looks like next episode they will be reinventing a bang stick/ zip gun

seems like they just copy others old designs

Judging by that video where Will shoots the blanks, the whole entire scene could have been staged. For all we know, they might not have even been in the same room when he was firing those blanks... Could have been some good ole' trick camera stuff just for TV...

I've been trying to give the show a chance but last night's episode was my last. I have a very hard time calling the launching of toy model rockets at armed pirates "unleashing hell". If these clients are truly security contractors, I feel sorry for the folks they are supposed to be providing security for.

I don't think a cardboard rocket launched via 9 volt battery would stand up to the rigors of a salt water spray environment. Would it scare a 12 year old Somali used to shooting real RPG's? That's open for debate.

Also note the number of 'rockets' that hit 20-30 feet in front of the launcher and exploded. No big deal on a flat plain over a lake, but a bad idea on board a pitching ship in any sort of wind, really great chance of getting hit with your own ordnance.

This has been on Red Jacket's web page for years:

If you can dream it, we can build it!
So dont limit your imagination to what's listed here!
(as long as its legal, and doesn't look ridiculous)

Frankly that attitude is likely responsible for them getting the show. And as they say, any publicity is good publicity...

Red Jacket has always been known for Saiga conversions and suppressors. They have a good reputation for that, and my own personal experience with them has been excellent.

As far as the wacky stuff I'm pretty sure most of it comes from the producers of the show. It would be interesting to know how many of these "government contractors" are the real deal.

I'm sure the public doesn't want to see what you and I want to see. Personally I got excited seeing the .308 rifle titanium suppressor and would love a whole show just about that!

I don't watch the Son of Guns show anymore. I do not approve of pointing a weapon at anyone, let alone pulling the trigger while the weapon is pointed in their direction. Too dangerous/stupid.

As for PDTV, Love the show, and catch it on TV when I can. Thanks for getting it started Tom.

I'm a little disappointed with Sons of Guns. The drama and characters are lame. The episode where the "apprentice" gets a saiga for his b-day, the guy acted more immature than my 10 yr old cousin gettin a nerf gun. That guy bugs me a lot, they should hire me instead.

I usually end up watching most episodes of it anyways though. I have too much spare time and its better than most garbage on TV I guess. I gotta admit the modernized thompson for the police department was pretty cool, even though I'm generally against putting modern stuff on antique guns. It was a replica though.

I lost a ton of faith in this show when the boss asked the intern/rookie (about the door breaching AR/shotgun combo) if he had ever heard of the M-203 grenade launcher and the intern said "no". Really?? You work in a custom shop like Red Jacket and you DON'T know what a M-203 is??
Not trying to sound elitist, and I certainly don't know all there is to know about every firearm out there but the M-203 is pretty well known in this realm...I would think.
