Southern AZ Shoot and Clean Up

I e-mailed Kor, maybe he will show back up on the forum, dunno what happened to him.

If any you that can go to the show are able to find some inexpensive .40S&W and .38 Spl ($16-18/100)

Do you want factory? I have had good luck with the Miwall ammo reloads (some of them with new brass) in 38 spec, copper wad cutter, it's like $7/50 and for lead round nose, $5/50. If not, their Winchester 130 FMJ is like $7/50 also.

I went through 500 rounds of their 40S&W reloads too, no problems at all, that was running about $6/50 also, though it was 180 grain stuff, they sometimes have some 155 grain stuff. Federal 165 gr around $8, S&B 180 gr around $7.50, Winchester 165 gr around $8.

and some cheap 6.5x55 and 8x57 (under $8/20)

I have like 200 rounds of 8x57 corrosive stuff too and a Czech Mauser which hasn't been fired yet. I am taking the windex and stuff so I can clean right after we are done. You are welcome to use my supplies if you want to shoot your corrosive ammo also.

6.5x55 Swede might be tough, usually I think it is around $9/20 at Miwall.

Otherwise, if any of you are reloaders I'd be happy to do some kind of trade

It's fine for trading and donations and such... but I don't have 6.5x55 dies (or rifle), nor have I picked up dies for 38 Special yet, I don't shoot it too often.

I think last time WkW bought some Olympic 8mm that had some quality problems (multiple strikes required to fire every round),

Miwall took that ammo back and refunded all the money for it too. They said there had never been any other problems, but I don't think it would be worth it to try again. Though they do have new brass loads of their own now for $10/20, I think it would be easier to factor in the time for cleaning than paying that much.

cidirkona, how much ammo do you have on hand for the SKS? I was going to bring my SKS, but if you have yours, we could just fire some of my Wolf ammo if you really want to give it a workout.

sumpnz, since you said you are going to be really tired, are you sure you still want us to crash at your place? We are probably all going to be tired after baking out in the sun anyways, maybe we shouldn't try to do cleaning, shooting, cleaning, and bbq all in one day?

Old Partner, hope to see you there! I'll try and get a box/sign out there so you don't miss it, like all of us did the first time.

Lennyjoe, so you don't feel left out... hehe, is the (pick up slaves) I mean family still coming out too? :D

Okay, I think this thing is long enoug... :uhoh:

I have about 600 rounds of 7.62X39 for the SKS that I could bring.

I was planning on bringing the 400 round can that I have anyway.

I should have 3 maybe 4 other folks with me to help out. Just gotta make phone calls for reminders.

Weather sucks here. Raining and 70 degrees. Think Im gonna freeze to death.

One good thing about being here is that my Cleveland Browns kicked the Baltimore Ravens butts on Sunday:D

I have 180 rounds of Wolf (already on stripper clips too - I got bored the other night). That will last me all day.

I have 1 (one) round of 40sw besides what I carry. I don't know how it got to the bottom of my ammo box, but I'm sure she'll get fired.

I've got nothing for the 12ga besides what stays in the tube at home.

Unless I can convince my second 'boss' to give me a paycheck sometime this week, all I'll have is the 180 rounds for the SKS.

WkW - That Miwall ammo sounds like a pretty good deal for plinking ammo. See if they have any 155gr .40, if not some 180gr will do, but don't get much of the heavy stuff (I can go for 200 rounds of 155, but just 50 of the 180 will do). Around 200 rounds of the .38 lead round nose would be good. I have some ammo for the Swede though most of it is hunting quality, so I'm going to be stingy with that stuff, though I don't mind firing off some of it.

I'm still up for the BBQ at my place. I'll be tired, but it'll be a good tired. If people want to clean their guns at my house, feel free so long it is done outside. Between the birds and the baby I don't want those fumes indoors. I'll probably clean mine on Monday morning.

I've actually got dies for 6.5x55, so if I can trade favors and get my brass reloaded I'd appreciate it. BuckeyePPC gave me a bunch of stuff a while back, and the dies were included in the package. I've got plenty of brass, and an inert round and loading data that can be used to duplicate ammo I had made for me (although I would kind of like to try some development for a heavier bullet like the Hornady 129 grain rather than the Speer 120gr I currently have - maybe that can wait until I have my own equipment though). We can talk about that on Sunday.

I've got nothing for the 12ga besides what stays in the tube at home.

I have about 80 rounds of Winchester budget stuff from Wal-Mart that does not eject correctly from my shotgun I picked up. Want it for a few bucks? I think it was like $14 or something...

I should have 3 maybe 4 other folks with me to help out.

It'll probably be just me and my wife for Sunday. Maybe one other, but he is a question mark for now.

WkW - That Miwall ammo sounds like a pretty good deal for plinking ammo.

Will do.

Is there a set meeting place at the gunshow? Noonish?

I am going to be there right at the opening time. Gotta double check the website for the time. Looks like Lennyjoe is going to try and get there late.

I'm still up for the BBQ at my place.

Who has a Costco card? I think my wife will have time to go pick up some burgers/buns if that's what you want to BBQ.

WkW - The BBQ is pot-luck style. Whatever you want to eat, bring it. I will probably pull out a couple extra burgers and/or brats so if anybody forgets to bring food I can cover them, but not the whole crowd. Drinks are also BYO. I'll have some soda, and other non-alcoholic stuff people can have, but again, there won't be enough for everybody.

Ok, it looks like I might not be able to go out until Sunday afternoon... crapola. Definately going to the gunshow around noon.

WkW, sure, I'll buy it off ya. Is it low brass/ high brass?

-Colin

I got an early flight out here on Friday so I will be back there around lunch time tomorrow. Gonna hit the evening show if they have it cause I got honeydoos for Saturday.

Hey guys, on the news last night they were talking about Typhoon Javier possibly dumping some rain on us over the weekend. I'd like those of you not out in the boonies looking for deer to keep an eye on that situation. If it looks like the weather will be really crappy, I'll leave it up to you all as to whether we postpone to another weekend, or slog ahead regardless. Just post here with the decision by Saturday night.

Lets keep an eye on the weather and go from there.

I am going to the gunshow first thing this morning. Will be there at doors opening.

If the weather goes to hell say by 1600 then maybe we will call it here and set up another day.

The original poster should make the call on the weather, no?;)

I agree, but I must say, I won't mind cleaning up since the rain would make it nice and cool (but maybe kinda dreary too), but I probably won't shoot in the mud and such. Cleaning wet guns and picking up muddy brass... um... thanks but no thanks. :D It's not the end of the world if we postpone, just more time to make some more ammo, I haven't even started cranking out the 9mm.

I'll still pick up the ammo for sumpnz from the show if not for tomorrow, then next time we set.

cidirkona, it's not high or low brass which makes it give my shottie the problem, it's aluminum type base of some sort. Seems to work for most, but I did see one post of (gasp) a Rem 870 not working with it.

I am going to the gunshow first thing this morning. Will be there at doors opening.

What happened to the honeydoos? ;) I might see you there, that place is big and wild though, so I'll be lucky to see anything!

Just got back from the show, saw Lennyjoe while I was in the line, then never saw him again in the mass of people inside. Though it was fun watching the escalator bring people into a line that wasn't moving!

Got your ammo sumpnz, 4 50 round boxes of 38 special, lead round nose, $4.95 each, and one box of 180 grain 40 S&W for $5.95 They had some 165 grain but it was $9.95 I believe. See my other gun show comments in General...

Weather, says 80% chance of rain for tomorrow... considering they didn't have any ammo for my SAR-2, maybe a delay isn't too bad... dunno.

Yeah, I was there from 12:15 to about 1:30 and saw absolutely nobody. I got a 30 rd magazine for my SKS, some 7.62x39, some 12ga, and a tactical holster for my g27. I didn't see anyone...

The rain's coming down really well right now... tomorrow's going to be muddy even if it doesn't rain.

-Colin

Yeah, I was there from 12:15 to about 1:30 and saw absolutely nobody.

I left about 11:50 AM, after arriving before 9 AM, and I am still awake now after I worked last night! Poking around with The Sims 2! And my Nambu!

I lost you as well WKW.

Was pretty busy first thing this morning there.

I picked up 100 rounds of .45, 10MM, 200 rounds of 5.56, 200 rounds of once fired brass for 10MM and 100 rounds of brass for the 06.

Also got some shotgun wads.

So, I think in light of the weather we should postpone for a week or two.

Whats your take on it? If we do agree on postponing then maybe we should start another thread with the change in date for others to see.

I think this thread gathers more attention the longer it is, no need to start another thread. But the weather is looking pretty grim, so push it back two weeks to October 3rd? Unless there is some scheduling problem. Maybe wasrjoe can make it then?

I just got back from deer scouting. Saw a bunch of whitetail, but no mulies :( . Anyhoo, just read of the desire to postpone for a couple weeks. Works for me, especially since I forgot to go to the back to get the cash for WkW for the ammo  . My wife will be happy too since the baby apparently was pretty fussy while I was out in the boonies and not sleeping as well as before, so the house isn't as clean as she'd like for a bunch people coming over.

I gotta get my butt out and start scouting for deer in my area pretty darn soon as well.

I did see about 9 deer when we went out Dove hunting a week or so ago. Bad thing was, it was in the adjacent hunting unit next to the one I have a permit for.

Weather looks ok for now but I think its gonna work out for all parties involved if we wait til Oct. Besides, Im sure were gonna get some more rain today.

Well fine then, I'll just go shooting by myself! Actually, muy fiance was in a car accident and can't move very well, so I had to help her get out of bed and stuff this morning and get her some breakfast before her parents got back home. I'm going out shooting in a little bit here to try out my new toys...

The weather doens't look too bad right now and doens't look like it's changing much either... I hope it doesn't start to rain.

- Colin

So that was you out there shooting the SKS then huh?

I was with my daughter putting some rounds down range with the AR-15 and 10MM.

Figured Id ride out and see if it was a muddy mess. Well, it wasnt. But the other side of the road was a blast. The daughter got her first taste of 4 wheeling. She was the one doing the driving.

I think I have a couple more dents on the top of the cab from our heads.;)

I coulda sworn that was you.

I let those other guys with the 22s try out some of my tools and I think I made a few new fans of the SKS. The tall guy let me try out his 357 SigSauer... and I think he made a fan out of me... I don't think I could afford the ammo though!

It was a nice day for shooting, I got some good pics I out there too. Cracked the handmade stock on the mauser though... :(

Ok, well at least decent pics off my phone camera. My folding stock should be in tomorrow, but I have a feeling it won't. Check out the shipping detail and tell me what you think...
