SP101 Picture Thread

Got this little SP101 in 32 H&R mag. It was unfired in the box. My best load so far has been a 98 grn berry's over 4.4 grains of Longshot. Tight groups and no recoil. Can't wait to try some 100 JHP over H110... real mag loads

Here's my 2.25 in 357. I swapped for a Hogue Monogrip because I couldn't get comfortable with the trigger guard up against my middle finger with the stock grips.

Okay lets see if I got the procedure down. . The plate on the left is 5 rounds 158gr 357mag and the plate on the right is 10 rounds 158gr Aguila SJHP. All shot at 7yds off hand.
Since then, 9/29, I have put about 200 rounds down range and improved my results a bit. I am working on staging the trigger and it seems to be helping with trigger control. Great revolver. Steady and more accurate than I am. Tried boot grips and Hogue 3 groove but have gone back to factory for over all work.

4" .357 ? Badger grips, etc.

As noted previously the .357 was only offered in 2.25 and 3 1/16" bbls. Somewhere on the 'net is floating a picture of an SP with a custom 5" bbl in factory style of one a guy has in Australia (can't have snubbies there ). Badger will make grips without the finger grooves and other changes e.g. small hands if you contact him directly when buying the grips. Over on the Colt Forum are pictures of some Det. Spec. with grooveless Badgers. Hogue also makes grips without finger grooves albeit on my SP I have a Hogue with ONE finger groove.

I recently got a 2 1/4" Sp101 for my carry piece. I find it much easier to conceal than the 1911 I sold to get it, and I haven't even got a good holster for it yet!

The only thing I want to add is a holster and some grip inserts.

Bead blasted (except for the cylinder), smoothed action, chamfered charge holes, shaped and polished trigger and meprolight front sight. SP-101's do not get much better then this:

New to this club

Details Brand spanking new 357, first rounds fired.
Five yards (over a chronograph)

Tried 3 different powders. Bullseye worked the best and had the least amount of muzzle blast.

In 38 spl for a 158grain cast bullet using the Lyman Max load published data for this produced an extreme spread of only 5 fps, averaging (a mere) 690 fps. Shot point of aim at 5 yards. Very soft shooting.

The next best load was an upper mid 357 load of Bullseye. Averaged 1014 fps and printed ~1.5" above Point of Aim at 5 yards. Very easy shooting.

Bullet is the Lee 358-158-RF (20-1 alloy). Recovered a few from a dry sand backstop buried about 6" deep after passing though 3/4" of fir target holder. The 357 loads produced an impressive dirt splash.
