Here is my .38 Special. It was my first gun about a decade ago.

Mine is a .22lr with a 2.25" barrel. I bought it 20 years ago as a carry gun for my wife, which she never did. It remained unfired all those years until about four months ago. Thought I'd want to sell it, but hell, it's so cheap to shoot!

I don't own a 101 although I have shot one.

I've got the Smith and Wesson 640. It's had work done on it and I'm very happy with it.

But I must say that these Rugers look so much cooler than my 640 it's not even close. The Gemini Custom guns are especially drool worthy.

I've got a S&W340 as well for deep cover. I wear the 640 on the belt.

But if I had seen these and thought more about it when I was shopping to fill the 640 niche I'd likely have gone for one of these for my heavier belt gun.

VERY NICE!

It's the Ruger "target gray" finish that came on the dealer exclusives (Lipsey's I think?).

I do really like it quite a bit.

.
Yes this is a special edition. It didn't cost anymore than the others. It looks great with the wood inserts.

Where can you buy those wood inserts from?

They're quilted Northern White Ash inserts that I picked up on E-bay and refinished with Tung oil.

I really like them and they look good in the pics but they look even better in person.

Another place to get them is from Tim's Workshop. Here's that link: http://www.timsworkshop.blogspot.com/

I got these from Tim...Oak, $20 total including shipping.

Easy to put on and change?
Thank you for that info. When I got mine it already came with this insert grip. (I believe mine was one of those limited editions)
If I get another one it will probably have the standard black handle which I don't like so I will have to purchase one of the wood inserts separately.

Here she is sporting her new Hogue grips--just went on today. I haven't shot a round with these grips yet but I already like them much more than stock. They have a solid yet comfortable feel to them, no exposed backstrap, nice form-fit for the first knuckle on my thumb (better than stock), and I can all of my fingers around the grip.

Now I just need to find a good holster with a trigger strap like Weevil. Anyone know of a good DOA holster? I need something I can trust to roll around in my backpack and stay secured.

When I carried mine more, and shot it more, I had the Hogue grip on mine.

It definitely tames the recoil better than the stock grips or the Pachmyar, but it is bigger and harder to conceal. That big pointy grip tends to print rather badly especially with IWB holsters.

I saw one of these in the gun case at my local haunt yesterday. Polished stainless and hammerless...hmmmm seriously thinking about picking one of these rugged little suckers up.

Get one, you won't regret it. Mine was not polished, did that myself and put a night sight on the front. I'm a die-hard S&W revolver fan with a few Colts thrown in. But the SP101 DAO has become my favorite carry gun.

The wood inserts in the grips look nice but I carry it with Hogue rubber grips. Never was a Hogue grip fan but they are perfect (for me) on the little Ruger.

Those wood inserts with the polish shine is beautiful. Is that stainless steel finish or nickel plate? I have the grey finish. If I get another one I would have to see this shiny finish.
The wood insert is or isn't a Hogue grip?

IS NOT. That is the factory grip with the black plastic inserts removed and replaced with wood inserts...same rubber, different panel.

The Hogue grip is a solid rubber one like TwoNiner and Weevil pictured a few post above.

The finish is polished stainless, not nickel.

I never did understand this but the ones that came with the wood inserts already, were those limited editions?
