Hi all. It's been a while since I've posted because I've been busy.Good to get back to the forum a little bit.

Anyways,I inherited a Springfield Armory Model 1898.This gun is not in its original setup. The stock has been changed and iit has Lyman sights.

The bolt operates very smooth and the trigger is very nice for being what it is.A little creep but the weight of the trigger is probably about 4-5 pounds.

Only problem with it is that the barrel from the end about 10inches down was all rusty on the outside. The inside is fine and the rifling is good with no pitting. The outside is just terrible.

Since the barrel was covered with rust I just decided to take some steel wool to it.It got all the rust of but it did what was left of the bluing in.(which wasn't more than a square inch of bluing left)

I'm thinking I should reblue this since it isn't original and it won't hurt the value of it.Does anyone know of any good bluing kits?Any prefrences? If different ones look different when they are done which one would look good on this rifle and look more original?

Thanks in advance.

Id use the reblue that offers the antique patina. I think Birchwood Casey M-38 is somewhat brown...others mixes should get you where you need to be.
